Re: England v Austria
You said he wouldn’t get away with ‘winning fouls’ if he played for Burnley. Yet we have a player who we all know is very good at ‘winning fouls’ and far less discreetly than Grealish. So what is stupid about the comparison?

Actually, Grealish's contribution to the goal was decent.
Right now I think southgate should give Harry Kane the rest of the night off.

Decent goal made by Grealiish and Lingard, and an easy finish for Saka, but that defence still gives me nightmares, and better teams than Austria will punish England when it truly matters.

Picking the two to start either side of Kane is going to give Southgate a headache.
Foden should be one, tough call for the other.

Crazy booking what is DCL supposed to do it's not his fault he outjumped the defender to win the ball, and then he picks up a booking for his troubles.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 9:26 pmFootball is going to hell.

How is Tarks not even in the prelim squad with the likes of Godfrey, Coady, Mings and White all selected? I wouldn’t have one of them above Tarks.

Exactly,
he couldn't have even seen the defender.
OK, so if the ref thinks it's a foul does that mean it's worth a yellow card? There was no intent to foul.

Re: England v Austria
Come on man. It was a reckless foul, therefore a yellow card offence. He kicked the defender in the head. A high foot that connects with an opponents head is almost always punished with at least a yellow card.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 9:42 pmExactly,

Re: England v Austria
It was a huge leap. Like a basketball player. But a foul doesn’t have to be deliberate to be a yellow card offence. It was reckless, therefore a yellow.

I'm sure you are right.
and if we follow this sort of thing to its conclusion we'll have non-contact, no heading(no balls overhead height) within your lifetime.

Re: England v Austria
Being a better athlete has nothing to do with it. His foot was so high that he kicked the defenders head. How can you say that isn’t a reckless foul?boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 9:54 pmHow does being a better athlete equate to being reckless?

We were fine until the first burst of subs. Shocking after and got worse. They were very unlucky not to equalise.

I'm not having that. How could he have known where the defender's head was?
was he reckless for jumping really high?

Re: England v Austria
He doesn’t have to know where the defenders head is for it to be a reckless foul. Are you really saying that if you stick your foot above head height and it hits an opponent’s head it shouldn’t be a foul? Really?boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 10:00 pmI'm not having that. Personally think that Reece James is better than TAA and is in form. He was outstanding in the FA cup final, had Sterling in his pocket all game.

Re: England v Austria
Incidents such as that it's discretional & basically the referee judges the intent whether deliberate or reckless, it was reckless & unintentional, it could have gone either way if the referee deemed it non reckless & unintentional. My opinion it was a foul but the lad was unlucky & could have equally got away with it instead of being penalised.

Re: England v Austria
I've got this really good idea:
4 midgets (am I allowed o say that?) across the back...
Any high ball that gets challenged is a free kick to us and probably a booking for them...
can't fail, can it?

Re: England v Austria
It will probably fail every time the ball is played above their heads for the attackers to challenge using their heads, as is the conventional way to attack the ball when it’s above the opponents head.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 10:17 pmI've got this really good idea:

Reece James gets the nod for me also, he's in fabulous form, and has just won a Champions League trophy so he should be buzzing after that success.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 10:06 pmPersonally think that Reece James is better than TAA and is in form. Re: England v Austria
the main reason I want Southgate gone is because when he was introduced he made it very clear he would only pick players who are in form and not reputation. He's a liar #Southgateouttiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 8:05 pmHope he plays well and scores a couple, it baffles me how he can't get in the 26 after his blistering end to the season, yet Rashford and Sterling who've barely netted in the last few months both make the squad, where's the incentive for guys to go out and get regular action and prove themselves, this is exactly what Jesse has done in going to West Ham instead of being a bit part player at Man Utd, and his reward is too be omitted for the summer.
Re: England v Austria
My biggest gripe with Southgate is that he doesn’t give Gabriel Clarke a right hook. How anyone can stand there listening to, and providing a polite answer to his questioning, is beyond me!

Unfortunately form fluctuates, and players get injured.
My issue would be that by now he should have the nous to identify a squad capable of performing at the top of its perceived ability over a 2 year period, to target one major tournament.
all he does is tinker.

Jeez, how tedious was that? Great use of his time, asking 5 slightly differently worded questions about TAA that were always going to be given the same obvious answer.
