A move for Charlie Austin and a need to move for Sam Vokes

Amazed Vokes didn’t do well at Stoke. I really thought he had at least another season or more with us.
Mind you Ward didn’t appear to have a good move either.
Perhaps a couple of examples of Dyche bringing out the best in players.
Good like to Austin as well, certainly one of the best strikers we have had.

Staggering that Sam has completed a season without scoring a goal but only five starts plus a number of sub appearances.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 03, 2021 10:27 pmAmazed Vokes didn’t do well at Stoke. I really thought he had at least another season or more with us.

I’m certain Dyche brought out the best in him.

It just worked between them that season right from the off.

I think Dyche worked miracles with Sam Vokes - improved his fitness and strength, instilled confidence and belief in a player where it was seriously lacking. One of Sean’s great strengths is man management and he has got the best out of many average players during his time here.

I think there’s a few in the back room that are excellent man managers. It doesn’t always have to be Dyche...

Vokes and Burnley was just a good fit. His career before joining was nothing to write home about but he was excellent for us.
Although he had a better record than Vokes before joining us, I get a similar feeling about Chris Wood and that he'd struggle to repeat what he does for us elsewhere.

Didn't Vokes miss a couple of penalties for Stoke? Always seemed reliable on that front here

I always felt more comfortable with Vokes taking pens ahead of Ings or Gray.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 11:31 amDidn't Vokes miss a couple of penalties for Stoke? Always seemed reliable on that front here

Re: ARTICLE: Contrasting fortunes for two former strikers
Two days before the season started in 2013 we sold Charlie Austin. Only Sam & Danny Ings left and neither of them had suggested they were the answer. I had some confidence in Ings but not Vokes to be hones but Sean Dyche said it was an opportunity for someone else, got the absolute best out of him, and he went on to do an excellent job for us.HB Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 7:12 amI think Dyche worked miracles with Sam Vokes - improved his fitness and strength, instilled confidence and belief in a player where it was seriously lacking. We couldn’t find a direct replacement for him of course because there’s only one Sam Vokes.
Re: ARTICLE: Contrasting fortunes for two former strikers
I couldn't believe the turnaround in Sam Vokes during the 2013/14 season. A player who looked cumbersome, awkward, and heavy became a monster in the air (in both boxes) and an incredibly sharp link-man and finisher. He and Ings will go down as my favourite ever partnership.
For one reason or another I never really took to Austin. I remember not being too bothered when he was sold as it was obvious we needed the money and I was sure we'd replace him with someone and just about retain our place in the league. Wrong on both counts.
