Putting football back on track
The Euros will definitely put the game back on the right track.

You would hope so. We have got it so badly wrong here.

Looks good but I wish deliberate time wasting was mentioned.

Re: Putting football back on track
It will probably be better if they keep the nationalities of the VAR refs different from the real refs. Hopefully then there won't be the old boys club factor.

Re: Putting football back on track
looking at how badly VAR has been used but more importantly looking at how poor the latest batch of refs are I think Mike Riley needs replacing

Re: Putting football back on track
I’m sure so. This is why such as Mike Dean has been persuaded to continue because the poor quality of some of the newer referees is questionable at best.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 2:38 pmlooking at how badly VAR has been used but more importantly looking at how poor the latest batch of refs are I think Mike Riley needs replacing

Re: Putting football back on track
Well we clearly thought we knew better...The objective is that the VARs should only intervene when a referee makes a clear and obvious mistake, or in cases of serious missed incidents.

Re: Putting football back on track
A referee is just like a position player, you have good and bad eras. Look at the keepers England had in the 70s against now but this shower are the worst bunch of refs in my memory. I think the lack of respect from pro players has been passed down to non-league and frightened so many away. Dreadful shame cos you can’t play the game without them.

So all that diving and screaming will be punished with Yellow or Red cards? Not A chance.
All that wrestling in the penalty area at corners and free kicks will be punished with Yellow and Red cards? Not a chance.
Mobbing referees - I hope Red cards are issued but can't see it.
Other than that I think it's a great plan!!

So the "Video Assistant Referee" will be assisted by an "Assistant Video Assistant Referee" but will the "Assistant Video Assistant Referee" have an "Assistant Assistant Video Assistant Referee...

Don't be such a cynic ----of course it will all happen, the directive comes from those running the game ---they MUST be obeyed!aclaretinstevenage wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 4:34 pmSo all that diving and screaming will be punished with Yellow or Red cards? Not A chance.

Re: Putting football back on track
Nothing new because there has been a "Video Assistant Referee" assisted by an "Assistant Video Assistant Referee" in the VAR booth for some time.
Yes, there will be another Assistant who is in charge of Offside ----good isn't it. Used to be 3 officials and we now have 7 different opinions to contend with.
Meanwhile back at the local grounds every week there are games being played without an official referee because they can't retain them.
All wil be fine at the Euros because there are only 2 PL referees from a total of 18 so, according to most English fans, that means that there will be 16 really good referees and all aided and abetted by VAR.

Re: Putting football back on track
The ref we had at Aberdeen & v Başakşehir at home are both on the refs list - Daniel Siebert (Germany) & Istvan Kovacs (Romania)
Re: Putting football back on track
Holding and pushing, especially in the box will be interesting. At most corners there’s usually one or two with their hands round the opponent, often pulling their arm or tugging their shirt. Perhaps if the refs pick up on this within the opening games it may deter other teams from doing it, be interesting to see how it unfolds, will they use var for that?
