National League Play Offs

First game underway - Notts County v Chesterfield
1-1 after half an hour, Chesterfield in front with a 30 yard free kick but Notts County level in no time. They were appealing for a pen, it looked as though he might have dived but another player stuck home the rebound.
Been enjoyable so far.

A lot of tension in my house right now - wife’s side of the family all here on the edge of their seats as big Chesterfield fans. I hadn’t realised till this season how different the Play Off structure is at National League level.
If Chesterfield manage to get up, they’ll have done it the hard way.

They tried to implement a similar play off system in the Football League a few years ago but the Premier League blocked it.

Chesterfield keeper down injured but they’ve gone without a sub keeper. After a few mins stoppage they’ve kept the keeper on but he doesn’t look good.

2-2: 71 mins just after Chesterfield had gone clear only to be stopped by an incorrect offside flag

And Chesterfield have just missed what their former captain Sean Dyche would have described as golden chances.

Nathan Tyson, it’s fair to say, is not flavour of the month in here right now.

Just looked at the table. So Sutton up. Stockport play Torquay and then the winners of that play the winners of 4th through 7th in the final?
It does look over complicated.

Will Evans let the guy walk round the back of him even whilst watching him start his run! Pathetic defending.

You should always have a goalkeeper on the bench. He’s played half an hour hardly able to move.

Agree but County didn’t really test him though in that half an hour
You’d have thought they would have put him under more pressure knowing he was struggling

Absolutely but to play with a keeper like that for what was well over an hour was ridiculous.

Always had a soft spot for Chesterfield.
Would have liked them back up.
Then again its sad seeing two grand old clubs sploshing around down where they are.

I’ve no idea why but I was wanting Chesterfield to win. I’m definitely with Notts County in the semi against Torquay.

Yep. I'll be wanting Notts County win too, CT.
Several old clubs down that end of football ladder that look out of place to my more traditional outlook.

About 15 years ago me & Mrs Aclaret were touring around the mountains near to Valencia in Spain, we booked in a b&b i was wearing my Burnley shirt and the owner introduced himself, he said he was born and lived most of his life in Torquay but was a Burnley fan, although he had never been to Turf Moor.....I gave him my Burnley shirt before we left and he was delighted. Hard to believe where you bump into Burnley fans...slight preference for Torquay I suppose for this one.

Be good if Notts County could get back into the FL, it's always to see a fellow founding member falling on hard times, and it wasn't that many moons ago that a similar fate nearly befell us.
All the play-off contenders apart from Bromley are former FL members, so the odds are that one of them will be making a return to the fold.
As long as neither Stockport or Torquay rear their ugly faces again then I'll be content TBH.

Well he's only there due to injuries. It's been a tough season, but if Chesterfield can hang onto the core of the side and get Asante, hollis, dents back from injury, they ought to be challenging next season.
Their form since James Rowe took over has been top 3. He started in the bottom 3.
Evans has sort of lost it this year after a pretty exceptional season 2years ago, when he was scoring late winners, saving penalties and a great leader (and hollis was pretty dreadful that year).

Notts County for me, please. I don't mind if it's torquay or Hartlepool. Bromley, though, is a hole of a ground with a group of irritating child-like supporters and a rubbish pitch. The best thing about their set up is the car park. At least Sutton have a long heritage at tier 5.

Two?
Torquay, Stockport, Hartlepool, Notts County, Chesterfield, Wrexham, Halifax, Dagenham and Redbridge, Aldershot, Yeovil and Barnet are all in that league.
It's worse for Boston, Hereford, Darlington and York who are in the division below.

Of all of them it’s Notts County with the history. They were just one season away from playing in the Premier League.
Hartlepool v Bromley today. Hartlepool have started the better and I want them to win. We did play them on the day I was born.

Notts County a historic club that could go places with decent investment but I’ll be cheering on Hartlepool.

Would like to see Notts County go up. Sutton is my local club and we used to sneak in there for games when we were kids and our own teams didn't have a game.
We're planning on doing a few away days with them next year over the international weekends, or the later FA Cup grounds when our own teams again won't have games, and Nottingham is a tremendous option for one. There's quite a few at that level as it is, with Salford, Oldham, Tranmere, Exeter & Walsall.

Didn't know Bellis was still there.
I'm probably not in a majority on here in that, I don't mind County. My dad used to take me sometimes for a Friday night game back in the 60s.
Always found their 'rival' aspirations with us were a bit far fetched, funny even.
They've never really had a big following. Though they'd a decent side, by our own standards, back then when we seemed to play them once a month.

Rooting for County as I've always had a soft spot for them. Hope they get back in the league. They were so unfortunate 3 or 4 years back when Kevin Nolan was manager and they were flying and missed out narrowly on promotion to league 1. Then next season they randomly imploded and ended up out of the league altogether. A club and fans who have had to endure the successes of their next door neighbours and rivals down the years (and years) so i always wish them well.

Same. I know one of their former managers (and left back), Kevin Nicholson.
And the fact they finished second, 10 points ahead of Notts County.

I’m hoping for two away wins this weekend. Not much time for Torquay and then look who’s at home tomorrow.
I was looking the other day at the clubs who were in the league back in 1987 when the promotion/relegation who are no longer there.
