Buendia
Signs for Villa. £30m reported, probably puts Grealish on a few lists.

Looks like Grealish is staying. They will be some team next season. Top 6 isn’t out of there reach
Re: Buendia
Depends. When Grealish got injured this season the rest of the team looked very poor at times.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 6:40 pmLooks like Grealish is staying. They will be some team next season. Top 6 isn’t out of there reach

Re: Buendia
That will also mean Norwich are in the market... not the best news for us. We would be struggling to compete with their buying power before this, with £30m extra in their back sack, they can see us off easily.

They were supposed to be “some team” this season and finished 11th. For context, that’s a place lower than we managed last season at a fraction of the cost.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 6:40 pmLooks like Grealish is staying. Basket case of a club. It nearly caught up with them two years ago. It’ll catch up with them before long.

Well they do now CT.
Fair bit of business that tho... £1m outlay and £30m in a couple of seasons later. Prices of players have gone ballistic...

Re: Buendia
Not far short of £250m spent in two summer windows. Almost down the first year and ultimately underachieved in the second year.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 6:49 pmThey were supposed to be “some team” this season and finished 11th. Re: Buendia
You'd think Norwich would be far better off keeping players like Buendia and Aarons. There's no chance they can adequately replace players like that with the sort of money they spend. Going to be another tough season for them.

Gutted because I dislike Villa and Buendia’s one of my favourite players. Class act.
Hoping they sell Grealish now because the thought of both of them in the same side is quite frightening!

Re: Buendia
Well £7/8m of that £30m is earmarked for Ben Gibson, so it doesn't leave a lot once you take wages etc into account for any newbies Norwich might like to snap up, and losing Buendia is a major blow for them as he was one of the few that looked the part in their last PL campaign.
Hopefully these types of transfers will show Burnley fans that should we wish to cash in on say Dwight then we can demand top banana from any interested parties, after all if EB is worth £30m Dwight must be worth at least that figure if not more, as he's performed in the PL for nigh on 3 years solid now, whereas Buendia has only had a season at this level to showcase his talents.

Re: Buendia
Just to add some perspective Bob, he has played one season in the Premier League for a team that fell 15 points short and was dumb enough to get himself sent off vs Burnley.
So he is not even “established” unlike say Jeff Hendrick.

Fair point Loup... If that is what £30m gets you, what are we likely to be getting? We have to rely on our recruitment team and scouts to be on their A game, because we will again be buying potential.

Re: Buendia
Pundits rarely mention the huge amount they have spent-they have a huge squad of high value purchases. For what they have spent they should have gained a top 6th or 7th place. They have realised that talent is plentiful in the Championship. I think he will replace Barkely who was was featuring less and less towards the season end. Think he will go back to ChelseaClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 6:52 pmNot far short of £250m spent in two summer windows. If Grealish stays SD might like to bid for his fashion advisor Jock Wan. That’s McGinn for those who haven’t heard the story.

Re: Buendia
Good deal all round.
Norwich get a great fee.
Villa get a very good chance creating right winger and have plenty of money to throw at it.

Re: Buendia
Jeff is an established PL player though, 4yrs with us as first choice proves that.
Then he was signed by another PL club when his contract expired.
Bruce just doesn't know what to do with him to get the best out of him.

Re: Buendia
He’s at best a filler at a lower premier club. He’s a useful squad addition but I don’t think many would see him as an established premier league player.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 9:37 pmJeff is an established PL player though, 4yrs with us as first choice proves that.

Re: Buendia
Established low level PL player, sure. I laughed at the ''he's not even PL proven like Jeff Hendrick'' though, Buendia has more technical quality in his left big toe than Hendrick has in both feet. It's also a weird thing to say given last time Buendia was in the PL he was top quality statistically regardless of his teams league position. Plenty of relegated players have proven more than good enough, including some of our own previously. Also what does getting a red card have to do with being PL proven? Messi got a red last season in a cup final, is he not proven?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 9:37 pmJeff is an established PL player though, 4yrs with us as first choice proves that.

I ain't got a clue what you're on about in regards to a red card.

Re: Buendia
Ah, well the red card isn't really relevant to if a player is established or not.
5 straight seasons in the PL compared to one is the important part.
Re: Buendia
The most important part is he's worth more than Jeff Hendrick because he's a better player.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 10:42 pmAh, well the red card isn't really relevant to if a player is established or not.

Re: Buendia
It's all about opinions, but if it's just about established, then Bruce must be far more established as a manager than Jeff is as a player?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 9:37 pmJeff is an established PL player though, 4yrs with us as first choice proves that.

So you can't use it to say one is good and the other doesn't know what he's doing.

Norwich have already lost the most important player they had last season. Oliver Skipp was absolute class for them.

Re: Buendia
Skipp & Buendia were two of six Norwich players in the PFA team of the year, the others were Aarons, Pukki, Krul, and Grant Hanley! There were three Brentford players and the two not to gain promotion were Armstrong and Michael Olise who is a 19 year old French midfield player at Reading. Allegedly Leeds and Villa are “linked” to the latter.

Re: Buendia
We can’t buy the best players off fellow premier league strugglers or top championship teams so the likes Buendia and Pereira are not realistic targets but Nowrich bought Buendia for around 1.35 million and West Brom Pereira for 7.4 so we need to be finding players before they get to Premier league or top championship teams, and the fact that we are a Premier league team, may entice a good player even within our wage structure because he gets a place on the biggest stage and will play.

Buendia was only on around £20k a week at Norwich.
With a proper scouting network we should be able to find players like him, if he was willing to join Norwich, he could've been willing to join us

I'm not sure that's true. I thought it was more a case of not historically having the scouting infrastructure to identify such players.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 12:16 pmDyche isn't keen to sign foreign players with no premier league experience though.

Re: Buendia
It might be a bit of both but you can get stats on any player in the world. So the scouting is half done already.
We have only signed 3 players from abroad with no English experience. Defour, the German striker and the Belgian that lasted a month.
