It was reported the deal was virtually complete, in truth none of us really know if or how advanced the talks were, we don't even know if Steve parish or Nuno ever exchanged a single word, we are all just blokes on a internet forum feeding off media outlets the sources are usually unverified & disputed & nothing more than speculation.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 9:06 amPalace have pulled out of signing Nuno due to fresh demands. Read somewhere that Palace are put off not only by the Compensation, but Seans Wage and Bonuses are beyond what theyd want to pay.

That’s a good list - two who have taken teams out of the Premier League in the last year and another who cocked up in the play offs.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 10:19 amIt would be interesting to see who we go for if Dyche goes to Palace.

Look at Everton who have ex managers at the two biggest clubs in Europe who didn't pull up any trees and got their best recent manager from Preston.
They need the luck of having their type of players at the time their appointed. 6 months either way can make a lot of difference.

Issue Palace now have is that any manager taking the role will know they were second choice. Not a great foundation for an appointment, but certainly one that someone out of work or operating in a lower division is more likely to accept than Dyche.

Aren’t most managerial appointments second choice or worse. Sean Dyche wasn’t necessarily first choice in 2012 and we only turned to Eddie Howe after Paul Lambert had used us to get a better deal at Norwich.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 11:36 amAlso name drop Howe and Lampard. It is very hard to predict. I always wonder what we as a club thought just ahead of Sean Dyche walking in for his first interview. He’d been so thorough with his prep I believe were were blown away with his knowledge of our players/team etc. even able to go through the errors that were leading to the goals against column being off the scale.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 11:33 amThe list might not inspire but it's hard to predict how managers fare at different clubs.

element of truth in that, but if you're an upcoming manager (as Dyche was then) being thought of as a second choice may be complimentary and that's very different to being an established Premier League manager (as Dyche is now) being considered as second choice which could be deemed offensive.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 11:40 amAren’t most managerial appointments second choice or worse. Re: Nuno to Palace
One of those mooted appointments that didn't seem to have the right fit - Nuno to Palace, same as Howe to Celtic- for a few reasons mulled over on here.
I agree with CT re: appointing managers. Often Board members are not all that knowledgable - and the vision a manager might present to a club could easily sway a wavering panel. Steve Cotterill and Owen Coyle were also leftfield choices at the time - certainly compared to the likes of Peter Reid and Ian Holloway. I seem to remember Michael Appleton being strongly fancied by many because of the work he had done in the England set up and the reputation he had for being a bright young coach. Where would Burnley be now if we'd taken him on instead of Dyche?
Can't help thinking Palace will take their choice between Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard. Yes Howe has a relegation on his CV, but he has a good record developing young players and he did have an impressive promotion and 5 years in the Premier League, finishing admirably and playing with verve for the most part.
Still feel Wilder is a very good manager. He was at a club where everyone's noses weren't pointing in the same direction (to coin a Dycheism) and feel he is at a similar stage to where Dyche was after his first relegation. Can see him bouncing back strongly.

Re: Nuno to Palace
Possibly, but my assumption is that these guys develop ego's - quite understandably given their roles and the pressure they handle - which mean they want to be highly coveted. I just can't see a figure as prominent as Dyche has become in the Premier League being too happy at joining a club when everyone's aware they preferred one of his counterparts.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 11:46 amI really don’t think they think like that. That's not to say that 2nd or 3rd choices are more commonly appointed generally - or that they may end up working out better than the 1st choice!
Re: Nuno to Palace
2nd or 3rd choice is irrelevant to these guys as you can be out of work for a long time and therefore out of the public eye and consciousness. Equally in the Championship and lower leagues very little publicity is derived by Managers. Once they depart the PL spotlight it can be a long and hard road back and that road is littered with many casualties. Everytime a new manager is appointed from abroad eg Norwich, Brentford, even Nuno at Wolves, the opportunities become much reduced. If SD is a serious consideration for CP, provided the opportunity is there for his continued development and progress along with a structure to support his loyal backroom staff then a move could be a strong possibility.
Re: Nuno to Palace
I won't be happy until Dyche signs the deal he has on offer at Burnley.
Re: Nuno to Palace
I think in the main , if you want a particular job then it's irrelevant how it comes around but all managers are individual's and some have bigger ego's than others.

What the London Evening Standard actually states is as below
"Steve Cooper and Sean Dyche are back in the running for the Crystal Palace job after the Eagles ended their interest In Nuno Espirito Santo. Palace will now explore other options and consider moves for Swansea's Cooper and Burnley boss Dyche. Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard are two other candidates".
Almost reads as though Dyche could land the job by default with other candidates dropping like flies.
Dyche was trailing the rest of the field but he's now getting his second wind as stamina kicks in.

Re: Nuno to Palace
Do you think the guy’s ego is so fragile he would be upset by something like that?
Anyway it’s clear Dyche isn’t going anywhere. We would have known at the end of the season if he intended to leave. The planning for next season will already be underway on the understanding that Dyche will be manager.
I do think he’s got the integrity not to leave us in the lurch.

It's the same for anyone who has a secure job - and Sean Dyche's job at burnley appears to be as secure as most in football management. If you are in a secure job that you (presumably) like, and along comes someone with a new challenge saying "Sean, you are my man, I want you to manage my club because you are the best man for the job" - you would be tempted. but if he comes along and says "Sean, we wanted Nuno, we wanted Lage, we couldn't get them, so we thought you might do instead" - a bit less tempting.
It wouldn't be an issue for someone who hasn't got a job, but it would be an issue in trying to tempt someone to leave a good job.
