Jimmy Anderson poised to become England's most capped test player

Assuming he features in the 2nd test starting on Thursday then Jimmy will surpass Alistair Cook's number of test appearances, not bad for a lad from Burnley is it.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/57375800

And the Burnley Express is also closing in on yet more career landmarks, 4 more test scalps will see him overtake Anil Kumble and go 3rd in the all time list, and he only needs 6 more wickets to reach a 1000 first class wickets, so if he doesn't achieve those goals in this match, then he almost certainly will achieve them both at some point over the Summer.

Amidst all the doom and gloom around English cricket right now we should be lauding this guy to the heavens, because we may well never see someone of his like again in international cricket, due to the amount of white ball stuff that many younger players are participating in it's highly improbable that many will even come close to these sorts of crazy numbers, so let's enjoy Jimmy, and indeed Stuart Broad who's not that far behind him well we can.

Might be suspended soon after he compared Stuart Broad to a lesbian

Must be suspended - the ECB have to be consistent.

It's crazy to think a fast bowler could get anywhere near to most Test caps in our country.

The bionic man.

We have discussed on here the merits of the council putting a statue of him up somewhere in the town, he really is our greatest ever sportsman.

Yes the only one to rival him is Jimmy Mcllroy, but of course for all his vast achievements he wasn't Burnley born & bred unlike Anderson.

Whether it's a statue or another way of marking his incredible feats there really should be some notable landmark in the town for sure.

Preston have roads named after Flintoff and Tom Finney, surely we can celebrate Jimmy’s achievements with something similar?

A local bus stop will do, they can call it the Anderson Shelter.

I'm at Edgbaston tomorrow, so I'll be getting right behind my fellow Claret.

Not a bad joke for a Yorkie. :)

The forecast for Birmingham tomorrow is cloudy and humid, so ideal conditions for Jimmy if England are fielding 1st, it should be conducive to swing which he is of course the master at especially in English conditions.

Hope you enjoy your day bodge, and whatever should Jimmy play you'll be witnessing a historic moment.

The worrying thing is, NZ as a unit swing the ball even better than us

I know your beloved Colne haven't been very good for a few years but calling them Colne donkeys is a bit far Lenny.

.

NZ are a good side in all formats, hence why they reached the WC final, and also are competing in the WTC final later this month.

Yes they do boast a good attack, and they may have the added bonus of Trent Boult playing in this game, so unlike last week whoever wins the toss might well fancy a bowl 1st up, as neither batting line-up has exactly convinced in the few innings we've seen during this series, so each could well be confident of rolling the other over for a low total tomorrow.

Jimmy plays, Stone replaces Robinson, and England win the toss and bat 1st, 6 changes for NZ, so that might give England the slight edge in this one, however Trent Boult is back and he'll provide a major threat.

:) 17,000 apparently, and yes it does make a difference to these large scale events when you get a crowd.

Slow but steady start by the openers 23/0 in the 12th, it looks a decent pitch, so England need to make hay after getting first dibs with the bat, 350-400 is a minimum they should be looking for.

Decent start. Can't fathom why Leach isn't playing. And Sibley's sweater is a disgrace.
