23 long years of hurt
Thread to wish Scotland all the best.
By the way, I've been telling a lot of lies recently.

Re: 23 long years of hurt
I don't know how long Steve has been up here, but I'll have resided in Glasgow for 30 years come next year, and I also have strong Scottish family roots so I have a foot in both camps so to speak, I have no problem with the Scots doing well just as long as it's not at England's expense, and hopefully both can qualifying along with the Welsh, it always adds to the tournament when all the home nations perform strongly, but sadly it rarely happens very often.

Re: 23 long years of hurt
I have a soft spot for Scotland having lived there in the late 70s and being on the Kop with Allys Army as Scotland qualified for the World Cup finals in Argentina
The atmosphere was unbelievable
The National team have suffered over the preceding decades as more and more foreign imports make their way into SPL teams indeed it's been known for Canadian international players to play for Rangers
I hope they do well and anything that gets Muppet "penalty king" Southgate sacked will be a bonus

Not sure an 8pm kick off on a Friday evening when the weather forecast is supposed to be warm and dry is the best idea.
All day to drink and you can bet many will travel without tickets.
Hopefully everyone behaves themselves.

Re: 23 long years of hurt
I've received loads of congratulatory messages from my Scottish colleagues and friends since yesterday's victory. Then again, I might be making this up.

Was surprised to see Hampden about as popular as Ewood last night what with the bitters 2 new favourite teams playing. Guess the jocks like to let the giro last a bit longer into the week.

Perhaps you meant your Hungarian friends?Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 8:43 amI've received loads of congratulatory messages from my Scottish colleagues and friends since yesterday's victory. Then again, I might be making this up.

Re: 23 long years of hurt
Yep, my bad. I've just rechecked, and it was indeed my Hungarian friends. Not a single message from my Scottish friends and colleagues. There must be a massive outage up there, affecting their phones and Wi-Fi. Happen a good job we didn't lose. It would have been sad not to have been able to read their massages of commiserations.
Re: 23 long years of hurt
Where can I get a "massage of commiseration"? Sounds like fun.

Re: 23 long years of hurt
You do realise if England now go on to win the tournament, the sweaty socks will claim that they should be classed as joint winners due to them gaining a draw with us in the group stages, christ they never shut up about becoming unofficial world champions following their 3-2 win at Wembley in 1967, even though that was only a Home International fixture.
Crowd was low at Hampden last night, but hardly surprising in the circumstances, and given who was playing, my work supervisor was one of the few in attendance, but considering she supports Dumbarton last night will probably count as a large crowd for her.
An ex-Celtic player in the Swedish ranks, and a current Rangers player in the Ukrainian ranks, so as you can imagine they each received a mixed reception from the locals who were there.

Not surprised to see the Southgate haters crawling out of the closet and revealing themselves as JocksWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 8:01 amI have a soft spot for Scotland having lived there in the late 70s and being on the Kop with Allys Army as Scotland qualified for the World Cup finals in Argentina
