Scotland player's will NOT take the knee..

Post by MACCA » Fri Jun 11, 2021 8:25 am

Not wanting to discuss anything political, however the Scotland players have decided they will not take the knee this tournament.

Not sure what that says about or how the English based players feel having been doing it every week for the last year.

Have they bowed to the pressure of their nation?
Have they decided enough is enough?
Were they simply bowing to the premier league pressure?
Were they simply afraid of the media backlash if they were the one who initially stood alone ?

Interesting to why the sudden change if it has always been a personal choice based on their belief.

Would be interesting to hear the Liverppol left back and Scotland captain Andy Robertson's reasoning , although we might not get the actual factual reasoning behind their choice.

Not a surprise given both nations’ dubious track record… Croatian fans forming a swastika shape on the terraces, Slavia Prague’s dismissive attitude towards the Rangers racial abuse allegations in the Europa League.

Good for the Scotland players. Hopefully their fans will show more respect for their decision than some of the brain dead England fans have done.

Nothing to do with taking the knee, hes not looking at TV, hes just booing his Mrs for taking her clothes off to distract him.

Why?
Do you not support a gesture against racism and inequality?
Why would anyone boo a gesture of this sort. Supporters should boo the teams that don't take the knee.

*Sigh* We have been through this. The message isn't about racism and inequality as much as the media want to try to change the narrative. Whether people like it or not, it is linked to the BLM movement, which many people don't agree with. Sky Sports and the PL can not honestly plaster BLM across their shirts, have BLM banners in stands, Have BLM across the screen at every game at the exact same time that George Floyd died and say it isn't about BLM movement. That is just insulting the intelligence of many people and those people are expressing their frustrations at that.

Bit cowardly of the Scots to be honest

Unfortunately they recognise that the need to boo players taking the knee is more important to some fans that actually supporting the team, and have decided to give in to the minority.

Fair play to England, the managers and the players for sticking to it, and for keep telling the fans why they are doing it, so it really does leave no doubt to anyone why people are booing it.

Not really. The message is clear. Find another way that isn't so interconnected with a racist organization in itself, and it will be supported and at the same time contradict your theory as to why people are booing it.

Anyone who's let themselves be convinced that the england team are endorsing marxism needs to take a deep breath, a long walk and calm down. It's manifestly absurd.

Players get booked for taking their shirts off in case it riles the crowd up.

Taking the knee has definitely riled crowds up on both sides in big numbers but is actively encouraged?

Keep politics out of football.

And yes even the remembrance day celebrations have gone to far in football now. It should be kept to one game a season on that weekend. Not spread over a few weeks so everyone can do a home game.

Again, misunderstood. Nobody thinks that the England team doesn't have good intentions. I don't doubt that they don't have good intentions. It isn't hard to grasp that when there have been rioting, looting, defacing war memorials, and looking at what that organisation stands for, how it is extremely uncomfortable for supporters to see and how it is linked.

Let me put it another way, had BLM not jumped on the George Floyd case, and pushed their agenda, would we have seen the kneeling and BLM everywhere in this country?

The terminology doesn't help. "Taking The Knee" sounds like American gangsta/political stuff. Simply "Kneel or kneeling" would seem to be less provocative.

Before Floyd I don't think anybody really knew about BLM we've gone from not knowing about something to having something rammed down our throats, BLM have been using GF to stoke up racial divisions & hatred within the country.

It sounds like 500 or so booing at most grounds I've seen and then the counter back lash from others.

They're big numbers to me.

Roll on tonight when the actual footy starts and we can start discussing the action instead of all this political noise which is in danger of distracting from what should hopefully be a great festival of football.

Sport and football in particular has quite rightly been a politics free zone, and that's how it should remain.

I care about the footy not virtue signalling gestures which have had absolutely no impact on society, as Zaha correctly pointed out taking the knee has changed nothing in the real world, so just maybe it's time for a rethink on this strategy because it's sadly proving more divisive then uniting and the core message is getting lost in all the noise.

It sounds like 500 or so booing at most grounds I've seen and then the counter back lash from others.

They're big numbers to me.
Do you have a boo-o-meter?

Bit cowardly of the Scots to be honest

Unfortunately they recognise that the need to boo players taking the knee is more important to some fans that actually supporting the team, and have decided to give in to the minority.

Fair play to England, the managers and the players for sticking to it, and for keep telling the fans why they are doing it, so it really does leave no doubt to anyone why people are booing it.
Great from the Scots imo. It means nothing, they do it because its the 'right' thing to do. Its connected with the BLM group who are horrendous.

It has NOTHING to do with football and we wouldn't be doing this was it not for a criminal thousand of miles away dying.

Couldn't agree more. Great post!

How any group who caused the upset and rioting that happened last year can get away with it and still be seen as doing well is a joke.

The gestures clearly have had an impact on society. More and more people are talking about racial and social injustice and the players taking the knee has contributed to that. Obviously an action like this will be divisive, because in part racist people won't like it. If everyone was opposed to racial and social injustice then there wouldn't be any division with regards to this cause. But the division already exists, racism already exists. Bringing this to the forefront of people's attention just prevents those who feel uncomfortable with the issue and would prefer to stick their head in the sand from doing so.

BTW, anyone who still keeps linking this gesture with the political organisation after all of the information presented to them just isn't even worth engaging with.

It's a sad state of affairs where some fans will be looking to applaud another team especially a rival 1 & boo their own team because we are seen to be supporting a racist organisation, I never thought that day would come.
