There are undoubtedly many, very ordinary folk that deserve recognition for years of extra curricular work - going above and beyond, so to speak.
BUT I wonder what values these ‘honours’ have nowadays, when celebrities receive them for their ‘unstinting’ work to charity, when this simply means that they have lent their name to the charity and turned up for half an hour at some events????
Similarly-high ranking officials, who simply carried out their jobs.

I get rid of the honours list. Every ******* year - news articles, opinion pieces and threads like this...

Became a joke a long time ago. There are many who deerve them and many unsung heroes. Certainly the people who went above and beyond to help with Covid and people who worked on the vaccine research are deserving. The Portuguese boss of Lloyds bank and Jonathsn Pryce ... come off it. This just devalues it all for the deserving ones. Out of date and touch like the establishment that decides on them.

One of those things which ordinary folk could grasp and put forward great community servants but rarely do.

Instead, civil servants, politicians and particularly the military, dominate, with just a relative few celebs, to make it seem more glossy to us Plebs.

The military and their medals...they thrive on it. A ging chucked in to help in civvy life, is often 'sorted' along the way.
