I reckon any team on 4 points has qualified to progress to the knockout phase. Bar any last minute miracles.

Re: Today's Games
Some performance by Denmark if they go through following that horrific start to their campaign in more ways than one.
And it's looking highly likely that they will progress now, 2-0 Belgium Lukaku again, and this one will certainly count.
4-1 Denmark and some incredible finishing by the Danes tonight they've been ruthless when the chances have come their way.

Surely Belgium have better back up strikers than Benteke?

Re: Today's Games
Good to watch, that. The Russians were a strong mix of the Dark Arts and some pretty decent football and were then blown away in the second half. The Danes are celebrating as if they've won the trophy - and why not ?

Re: Today's Games
I'm afraid that any side playing as directly and as quickly as Denmark did would have no problem beating us.
Re: Today's Games
BBC pundits showing the variation of 'VAR' offside for the Belgium 1st Lukaku disallowed goal.
Demonstrates precisely that the prem can get tge result they want from VAR, until there is a very different rule about offside.

Re: Today's Games
I've given up with the offside laws anymore they seem to get more bizarre by the game.
Good news for you guys tonight Ian, those results mean that a Scotland win will ensure you qualify for the next stage, and it could be an omen that Austria reached the knockout phase of the Euro's for the 1st time ever today.
Re: Today's Games
Beating Croatia is no easy task!
I can see a draw and that would leave Scotland short.
Time for a wee bit of luck and see all 3 home nations march on.

Re: Today's Games
A draw does neither team any good, so you'd expect a fairly open game, however both teams have struggled to score goals, so it may well come down to perhaps a set piece or even a mistake, I hope for everyone's sale it isn't the latter as that would be a horrible way to go out for either team.
Best of luck to Scotland tomorrow anyway, and it would be great to have all 3 home nations still involved come the last 16.
Perhaps the Billy Gilmour news will inspire Scotland, it certainly looked like Denmark were playing their hearts out tonight for CE.
Re: Today's Games
I am sure Scotland fancy another Wembley outing!
Re: Today's Games
They always were, the Spain group could only get 3 points and the Swiss had negative GD and that's without mentioning the rest. 4 points is always enoughVegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 10:05 pmEngland now mathematically through if they finish 3rd, so exciting

Re: Today's Games
Funnily enough I'm sure the same things were thought about Iceland in 2016, and look how that turned out.
Plus this Danish team are far better than Iceland were in 2016, and they also finished 2nd behind Belgium in England's Nations League group only about a year ago, taking 4 points from England in the process, can England beat Denmark on any given day yes of course we can, but it's definitely not an encounter I'd be hugely confident about if it should occur.
Re: Today's Games
Why doesn't that surprise me? you've done nothing but whine since the Euros started, waiting for England to fail to stick the boot in, it's sad.
France draw to Hungary and it's a good point, England draw with Scotland and you're quick on here telling us all about why Southgate is shite.
As for the nations league group, I swear we had 10 men nearly all game against Denmark.

Re: Today's Games
I don't think you don't need to be Scottish to see that a fluent, freely-attacking side playing with the intensity the er, "scary" Danes did would cause the English defence severe problems.
Perhaps your agenda is blocking your view ?
Re: Today's Games
I don't really have an agenda, I'm just positive about England's chances. I don't see Denmark as a serious threat to England despite all the OTT negativity about how bad England are.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 6:51 amI don't think you don't need to be Scottish to see that a fluent, freely-attacking side playing with the intensity the er, "scary" Danes did would cause the English defence severe problems.

Re: Today's Games
I can’t understand the negativity either and thought it was massively arrogant to think that all we had to do was turn up and we’d beat Scotland.
Tonight’s a far better indicator as to where we are as a team.

Re: Today's Games
If we turn up with a must not lose attitude as we did against the Scots, we'll no doubt labour for 90 mins and grind out an eventual win.
I'd like to see us play with a bit of verve and confidence - we're certainly capable of beating the Czechs 3-0* - there's no excuse tonight for more tedium and pragmatism.
The job of qualifying has been done successfully so why not show off what we can do ?
* 3-1 would be better, I'd like Vydra to come on and get one.

Slowly but surely we'll turn it up a notch, go through the gears gradually, we coasted through the group qualification in gear 2. Like i've said all along, it's about peaking at the right time, not too early, get the crappy performances out of the way in the group stage and just ugly grind our way through until we click and come alive.
Re: Today's Games
I hope you’re right. So far there’s not been much indication that there’s a whole load more to come, unless Southgate is prepared to release the shackles.KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 1:05 pmTonight is the night the nation starts to believe.

Re: Today's Games
I've gone 2-0 England. Let's try to bully Czech Republic playing with confidence and attacking ruthlessness. Looking forward to it and hope we can progress to the latter stages or even last stage of the tournament. Would be a big lift to the country.

Re: Today's Games
Some football fans that follow the international team might 'get a lift' but for the majority in the country it's an end to living life under ill- thought out rules and restrictions that's the key to a feel good factor; we'll, at least a feel better factor. Football isn't important currently despite the media attempt to make it so.
As for 'getting crappy performances out of the way' if it were at all legitimate then one has to take into account all of the other teams' indifferent performances so far. Anyway, if you are watching it I hope it has a satisfactory conclusion.

Of course it's the end of the restrictions etc that will make the fundamental difference but England winning the tournament would make a positive contribution or give many people a lift.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 1:38 pmSome football fans that follow the international team might 'get a lift' but for the majority in the country it's an end to living life under ill- thought out rules and restrictions that's the key to a feel good factor; we'll, at least a feel better factor.
