Nothing to do with this site… it was all Clarets Mad’s fault.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 12:19 pmFor the longer serving readers, they may even be reading this with their solicitor.....

Happy Birthday Stan
Despite some success prior to his arrival, Stan gave Burnley back the belief that our football club deserves to be playing in the higher leagues, for that I will ever be grateful. Give us our fair share of excitement and laughs too. Great times

Re: Stan’s 75 today
Great manager for us, stabilised us and brought in possibly one of our best ever players in Ian Wright because of the admiration Wright had for Stan as a coach and person. A that was required was a decent free kick by Gascoigne and we would have been in the championship play offs as well.

Him and Barry Kilby built the foundations for everything we've got today.

Re: Stan’s 75 today
To be fair I would put it down to two great saves from Hedman than poor free kicks from Gascoigne, but oh well it all came good in the end didn't it!bfcjg wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 1:35 pmGreat manager for us, stabilised us and brought in possibly one of our best ever players in Ian Wright because of the admiration Wright had for Stan as a coach and person. Re: Stan’s 75 today
Happy Birthday Stan.
He put us back on the map again as a football club, and provided some wonderful memories.
The two that still live with me are our FA Cup win at Derby, and this was our 1st every victory over a PL club.
And the win at Scunthorpe to clinch promotion when Glen scored a screamer, what a player he was in Claret & Blue during Stan's time, and if he hadn't suffered those injuries we'd have probably gone up automatically that season we finished 1 goal outside the play-offs.
The last couple of seasons of Stan's tenure weren't easy, but he managed to keep us in the Championship which allowed us to build to where we are today.

Re: Stan’s 75 today
A lot to thank Stan for but I’ve never forgotten the night at The Riverside or the afternoon at Cheltenham
Re: Stan’s 75 today
I'll never forget seeing him outside the Bob Lord after we'd lost 2-0 at Notts County. I asked, "what happened today, Stan?" and he replied, "we lost 2-0, mate". I couldn't argue - I had asked, to be fair.
Top bloke who's been through a rough time in the last few years. Hope he's doing well - Happy birthday, Stan.

A typical Stan answer. I spoke to him on the phone earlier this year and he seemed fine.Fretters wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 9:26 pmI'll never forget seeing him outside the Bob Lord after we'd lost 2-0 at Notts County. Stan the man. Still feel like he was treated badly toward the end of his tenure. Wish there were more managers like him today.

I seem to remember an interview where he publicly humiliated you by name didn’t he?
Re: Stan’s 75 today
If that’s true they’ve obviously made up so well done to them both. Life’s far too short to be falling out.

Re: Stan’s 75 today
Stan was furious with Tony because a rumour started on the former board, that co-incited with something Tony had been told in confidence about a target. Stan assumed Tony had betrayed the confidence. I remember there being no direct link to the rumour, but Stan had put 2+2 together and as CT edited and managed the board, he got the blame.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 2:34 pmI thought he didn’t like you?

But it wasn’t hard to fall foul of Stan, and it was clearly sorted out over time

Re: Stan’s 75 today
Like everyone else, I was occasionally on the wrong end of Stan’s anger but generally got on very well with him. I don’t ever recall him publicly humiliating me but I remember a press conference after a friendly when I was mentioned over a missed transfer target but that was all caused by the then Lancashire Evening Telegraph reporter of the time. The player was Michael Stewart.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 2:34 pmI thought he didn’t like you?

But you are wrong in your assumption that he doesn’t like me and wrong about him publicly humiliating me in any interview.

Re: Stan’s 75 today
Was it shortly after that interview you reference that the admin on Clarets Mad started banning anyone who posted a transfer rumour they had heard and wanted to share with other board members?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 3:14 pmLike everyone else, I was occasionally on the wrong end of Stan’s anger but generally got on very well with him. Re: Stan’s 75 today
You are right that Stan did name Tony, I remember the interview…. It was something like (under his breath) ‘Tony Scholes and his social media mob’. But it related to the incident we have been discussing. But yes it is when rumour threads starting getting a lot more policing by admin.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 3:57 pmWas it shortly after that interview you reference that the admin on Clarets Mad started banning anyone who posted a transfer rumour they had heard and wanted to share with other board members?
