Robbie Savage

Post by CaptainKirk » Thu Jun 17, 2021 12:05 pm

I only caught the last 15 minutes of the game but it was enough to make me wonder who decided to basically have a fan on as co commentator?
I think most people realise he is a prat with nothing to contribute but then add to that his uncontrolled and of course completely biased warblings and it gets silly.
Give him a scarf and send him to the stands.

Finally, what on earth was Gareth Bale doing at the end? Even the aforementioned Mr Savage was telling him to go to the corner and finish the game, but in the space of 60 seconds or so of playing time he tried to put one team mate through on goal and then went for goal again on two successive corners.
I know it came off but anyone one of those attempts at glory could have ended in a breakaway equaliser and they would now be looking at probable elimination.
He should ask John Barnes what he would do if ever in that situation again.

I think his enthusiasm adds to the entertainment. Better than Sam Matterface and other benign commentators.

Savage said they should have been keeping possession rather than trying to score when they didn’t get a goal from the first one but he was all in favour of them doing it when the goal went in.

He is so biased but then again isn’t it the same with an England game with ex England players?

Pretty sure Phil Bird is a fan, biased as can be and I for one love him for it - kill enthusiasm and there is no point to any of it. Savage is just enthusiastic

I’d be more worried if a British tv station covering a British team against a non-British team wasn’t biased!

I listened to the first half of the Wales game on talk sport, Dean Saunders was the pundit he talked like a fan however my overriding impression is that he just sounded like Uncle Bryn from Gavin and Stacey.

He’s not bad on 606 with Sutton either.

Never been a fan of his but you can’t knock his passion and enthusiasm. To be honest, I’m not going to go full on and say he was brilliant but I have to say he did add something positive to the presentation.

Shock... Welsh man wants Wales to win

This is why people like Sam Matterface and Jermaine Jenas get a go as well.

For those who don't like someone caring for their country and getting behind them there is the bland option

I don't mind Robbie Savage he can give it out but I like the way he can take it. He makes some really funny mistakes when he's doing co-commentary's do any of you remember the occasion during Leicesters prem winning year Savage was referring to Leicesters supremacy in a game describing them as"Leicester are absolutely rancid" somebody must have had a word in his ear because he later remarked on how rampant they were, good value.

I've never been a fan of "declaring" with 5, even 10 minutes to go. Sometimes the best way to win a game is by scoring goals. Yes, you can waste 30 seconds on a good day, 5 seconds on a bad day, by deliberately avoiding creating chances, but it can go wrong as well as right.

Why not simply turn off the sound rather than moaning about every single commentator, co-commentator, presenter, and pundit.

If it's not Savage it's Hinchcliffe or Neville(s) or Jenas or Goodman etc etc. Give it a rest, realise you're not obliged to listen, and accept they know far more about football than anyone on here.

It's a bug bear of mine going into the corner.

It doesn't work very well. In the games I have watched over the last few years 8 seconds is about the most I have seen wasted.

Far better to get a cross in if you can score.

Wind up merchant! But The game needs a bit of character we need a few of him in our game right now. Like the guy off the pitch to be fair and as a Burnley fan I think we would of loved him In our side, similar to Barton.Says plenty of good stuff about us too.

He managed Chesterfield as if he was uncle Bryn from gavin and Stacey. Mind, Caldwell managed Chesterfield like he was captain snort from pippin Fort. Picked some players to go out on the fire engine every game even though they were unable to squirt their own soda syphon at the fire.

It depends who their team is. We went beyond the reasonable red scouse threshold in the nineties, so we are due some balance. It seems that man city, Southampton, villa, wolves and us have been underrepresented for ages with at best one regular ex-player featuring.

That, being ex pros and people employed in and around the game, they'll have more knowledge on football matters than the likes of us who pass comment over the internet.

Not aware that we have any of the aforementioned posting on here, but if so, they'd be an exception.

I like Robbie Savage. The connection with Rovers is irrelevant for me. A proper midfielder of the likes that we would seriously benefit from having at Turf Moor currently.

I love his co-commentary from our play-off win at Reading.

There will be people on here with fifa coaching qualifications.
There will be TV pundits who don't have any qualifications.
So if you are talking tactics etc, yes there could be people on here who know more than the pundits.

Thanks for the reply. Far from convinced your suggestion 'holds water'. They could play the game better than us but not too sure beyond that. Some could barely spell their name.

Robbie Savage cheers me up with his at times off the wall comments.
Personally, I hate teams playing the ball in the corner I prefer prefer attack as we did at Wolves with Ash Westwoods late goal sealing a win.Re Sutton I wouldn't let him comment on a kids game his insight would sit neatly on the end of a pin

I was listening to TalkSport this weekend and Dean Saunders called Bonucci and Chiellini - with their 700 games for Juve and 200 plus Italian caps - “carthorses”.

Incredible stuff.

You never see him and Keane doing punditry together because if you did they'd both argue the exact opposite point together to try and create controversy. Good entertainment if you buy it, crap when you realise it's not their own opinion at all.

Savage just plays devil's advocate all the time..... zzz.
