Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
Never understood why "that lot" call themselves East Lancs, when most of the clubs are from East Lancs, why arnt they called blackburn cc , like we have a Burnley CC ? Is their a reason ?

Not the best week for East Lancs.
Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
I think East Lancs are playing without a professional this season.

They were formed by members or former members of the East Lancashire Regiment, an army corps, I believe.

I'm glad Padiham's pro Jack Edgar didn't win the game for Rishton as Lenny wouldn't be too happy.

Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
When I used to go to Lancs League games regularly I hated going there. I remember going in 1986 on the way back from a football pre-season game at Wigan and after getting into a debate, for want of a better word, with two home supporters I vowed I would never go again and I haven’t.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 6:25 amOne of the only clubs I’ve never been too keen on are East Lancs, haven’t been over for 4/5 years now but never used to enjoy the day out

Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
Changing times at East Lancs .... back in the day they were effectively " Blackburn CC ", with a ground opposite Corporation Park, and backing on to Queen Elizabeth's Grammar, and also the " District and Union " Club ( The nearest thing Blackburn had to an old style Gentleman's Club ) was on West Park Road. The ground hosted t' Rovers between 1878 - 1881 and an England v Wales game in February 1881. It was set high up above the smoke and steam of Industrial Blackburn, and had some wealthy backers ...
The demographics around the Club has changed beyond recognition in the last 35 years, becoming predominantly an Asian area. Looking at their three teams fielded last week, it was strange to see 10/11 of the 1st XI were " Indiginous " ( for want of a better word ), with just one player of Asian heritage. However, all 22 players for the 2nd & 3rd XI's appeared to be of Asian heritage. An old Rugby mate, who played 1st XI at East Lancs for years tells me that the bar takings, a crucial source of income, are falling year on year as the Asian lads just come to play and then leave, rather than stay around for the after match " craic ". I presume the lack of funds is one of, or the reason for not fielding a " Pro " this year.
Quite sad in a strange way ... Someone like the " Issa " brothers, who own Eurogarages, could do their local reputation a power of good by sponsoring the Club, bringing in a " Star " Professional , and restoring it's fortunes.

Bar takings down? Ha ha.
When they thought they were better than the rest it was home members only in the bar and to hell with everyone else.

Sorry was too absorbed in the footy. I'm not at the game..doubt many are tonight but Darwen won by 5 wickets in the final over. They were chasing nearly 30 from the final 3 overs and got them. Poor bowling at the death it seems.
Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
I would guess it was so they could slope off to the bar and watch the feast of football that was England v Scotland. Should have made it 24 overs, lads!Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 7:22 pmLowerhouse 111/8 in 16 overs at Darwen. A 16 over game agreed by both sides.

The players of yesteryear also appear conspicuous by their absence.
On the issue of the bar, in the late 90’s I played there and we as players were refused entry on the basis we were wearing jeans and not slacks!

Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
A poor Lowerhouse performance at Crompton. Beaten by 5 wickets after posting 193/9. Crompton are one of those teams with 3 or 4 top order batsmen that they rely on and after that there is little to worry about (and that is from a Crompton supporter)..but House just struggled to get them out. Just too much poor bowling today which is unusual. A missed chance to climb above Walsden with them losing again at Burnley.
Lovely ground is Crompton too with a fantastic open view of the hills across the valley. Todmorden is a nice setting but i think it tops it.

Is the pitch still spinning like Mumbai or have they furloughed the groundsman with no football cash coming in?
Low scoring affair.

We did warn you. Losing Price was always going to be a killer blow. I think the cricket is a lot more competitive each week. Drubbings and one sided games are rare although you might not see it that wayLongsidelenny1882 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 10:14 pmHalf way stage thought we might have half a chance that was silly of me got to say the difference in standard in div 1 and div 2 is scary not good for cricket but that’s what the lancs league committee have created in Rodney as we speak the ale is bob on upthecolne
Take a look at the leagues and only 5 old Lancs League sides are in Division 1. Lowerhouse, Burnley, Todmorden, Ramsbottom and Colne. The rest languish in Division 2. The new teams have improved the standard. I do agree that it is increasingly difficult for any promoted team to establish themselves in the top division and i think Middleton are only keeping their head above water thanks to Price.
Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
Not everyone. Against division 1 teams, we have a 100% record of losing. But in the three games we played against division 2 teams, we won 3 out of 3. Roll on next season!
Anyway, we may not have got Price out, but we got 5 Middleton amateurs out. Another point for the mighty Colne!

Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
I always enjoyed playing at the HQ. East Lancs in the 80's & 90's were always a good side and a really good bunch of lads. Dave Pearson was an outstanding amateur batsman, and I've no idea how he didn't play County cricket.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 4:30 pmWhen I used to go to Lancs League games regularly I hated going there. It's really sad to see local cricket clubs like East lancs in such a bad state.

Re: Lancs League t20 - 17th June
I remember the day Burnley played there in a Worsley Cup match and needed a sub fielder for a few overs. On came East Lancs captain Brian Ratcliffe and in no time he got a catching chance right down his throat but refused to catch it. He was told in no uncertain terms to get off the pitch and Burnley played on with ten.

That's the problem with 2 divisions. The chances are the promoted sides will have come up due to the pro having a good season but not many stay for two seasons as their careers progress back home.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 10:29 pmWe did warn you. Good for Lancs league though. There was too many easy games for Burnley and Lowerhouse in the old league.

Apparently, it is a record high score for a regular League fixture, beating Accrington's 386/6 nearly a decade ago. Todmorden made 411 in the 1938 " Play Off ",( a year when 4 teams finished equal top of the League ), and there have been 3 higher scores in the Worsley Cup over the years ....Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 9:11 amThe 28 ball hundred must be a record though?
