Commentators poor grasp of maths

I don't know why I find it annoying but has anyone else noticed the poor mathematic abilities of commentators.
Just had it during the Germany v Portugal game when a player was a yard offside and Lee Dixon stated they're at least 5 yards offside. Last night during the England game an England player was offside because of his knee and Ally McCoist claimed he is 2 yards offside.
The best, and worst for commentators as they literally have it measured for them, is when a goal is scored from a yard outside the 18 yard box, 18 + 1 = 19 and they claim a goal from 25 yards!
Anyway Saturday rant over.

And then we get the ‘miles offside’ claim

Just to be picky - you could be a yard outside the 18 yard box and still be 25 yards from goal if you are not directly in front of the goal
But you do have a point. Even away from the goal area, they are generally able to work out the distance with the way the grass has been cut, which are generally 6yrd strips

Turn the sound off ---the game still gets played and you don't have to listen to rubbish.

This is not maths though is it. It's a lack of measuring ability. It's a common fault amongst professional players as you can see when they are asked to go back ten yards.
How do foreign footballers say someone is offside? Kilometres, meters? Ten yards is 9.15 meters by the way. The penalty spot is 11 metres (originally 12 yards) from the goal line.

The stupid Americanism about doing the Math really winds me up
It's like a Maths equation without any answer
The subject is Mathematics

But it’s called math here so to be an Americanism it must be called math.
Say do the maths if you want to make it a Britishism.

Well if Darren Bent’s performance on Celebrity Mastermind is anything to go by, 18+1=25 is an improvement!

Think we should be more concerned with pundits really poor grasp of English. You would think it would be a basic requirement of any kind of journalism/commentary or punditry. Ian Wright and Clinton Morrison make me cringe when they get tongue twisted and can’t say what they mean. Far too many ex players who shouldn’t be doing punditry. Much prefer having a proper sports journalist on with the ex footballers such as Mark Pougatch.

I think they found too much truth when they resorted to non -famous ex-professional footballers. At least they get the lads they have to stay on message.

Measuring and estimation is part of ks1 maths.

Could understand it if you were saying Women were bad at estimating measurements as it's us that have shown them what 7 inch allegedly is.
