I work in Stoke and the reaction to this suggests we could be pulling off a serious coup.

We're clearly very keen on him and he appears to be a top target for Dyche.

Hope we get him and Nat Phillips at Liverpool

I don't know about that but it wouldn't be a surprise. I think deals have to be paid within two years which would have meant last January but given the current situation it could have overrun. Stoke are not without money though, or their owners aren't.

Mike Pejic was always one of those football cards that I seemed to get half a dozen of.

Not changed his hairdo in the meantime looking at photos on Wiki, but European over 65 Taekwondo champion in 2019, which makes me realise what a smashing hairdo he has...

I was amazed when I checked to see how long ago it was that he played - he's a couple of years older than me.

Was scratching my head when I read his age and was sure I saw him play in the late 80's/early 90's. Then I realised the Pejic I saw was probably the one who played for Wrexham and Hereford.

Just checked and it was Mel Pejic, his younger brother, who played for Wrexham and Hereford.

They had to be related with a surname like that.

Mel started at Stoke but played a lot of games for Hereford.

Over 400 apparently. He played a season in the old Second Division with Wrexham - now that does seem a long time ago - managed by a former Claret.

Wrexham have been out of the EFL for 13 years (after 87 seasons in the League). That's a long time.

Got told yesterday by a Stokie I've known years that they've not paid for Sam yet and is being factored in.
He reckons we've got him.

Hopefully this gives us a replacement for Tarks plus £10mil or so in the bank.

It’s a crazy world when someone who has only played 39 games in the Championship is worth £12 million and may not be PL ready.

He's 20 years of age so will have only been introduced to first team football over the last season or so.
If the Scouts have done their homework correctly then he makes more financial sense than ageing pro"s such as Ashley Young.

Yeah but if he's as good as we hope he is and he'd played 60+ games and proved himself, then we probably wouldn't have been able to afford him!

I think they were one of the clubs placed under a transfer embargo because of late filing of accounts but I don't know about anything else.

Sounds promising let's get this one over the line ASAP, yes he's young but I'd rather we forked out on potential than waste a fortune on ageing journeyman who'll have no sell on value.

And just because we're seemingly signing Collins, that doesn't automatically mean Tarks will be leaving, although he probably will go this summer, but either way it's always better to get his replacement in first, and then if he does choose to move on we're not left in the lurch.

£12m sounds a lot, but these days it's not a huge amount especially for someone with Collins potential, and he'll surely only improve under Dyche and Mee.

So to get this one tied up would represent a good start to the window for m, however it would only be a start, we'll still need a RW as a minimum, and ideally another CM, and possibly a young RB for when Bards finally hangs up his boots.

If nothing else the introduction of Collins should reduce our average age by quite a margin.

The lad sounds an excellent prospect and just what we'll need post Tarkowski to help our cause in the PL but also, God forbid, in the championship if we go down. He clearly has the potential to be very useful to us.

We’ve sold Gibson for 8m so effectively paying £4m for him. In that context it seems an absolute bargain…

more an argument of whether they have broken FFP, the massive write down on the valuation of the squad in the 2019/20 accounts saw a huge proportion of it accredited to Covid which means it is FFP exempt, there are queries about how much of that is reasonably assigned to the Covid situation - mainly from other clubs that haven't used that tool so dramatically. The write down should have helped them in the last financial year too with regards to FFP, though some have speculated that they need to get a £10m+ sale booked before year end to ensure that they fit FFP this time round.

He'd have a good bit to live up to there. One of the best of his era.

I don't think Collins played there early in his career, so no reason for Collins wanting to "go back there."

I guess everyone saw Ashley Young's comments re "Very pleased to be back at Villa. Enjoyed my time here, X seasons back." Nothing about him being offered more money than BFC offered. Villa only 1 season contract, also.

UTC

Young admitted that as soon as he heard of Villa's interest he told his agent to just go and do it.

Not quite sure just how this has been arrived at? Vokes reportedly cost Stoke £7.2mil but £1.7mil of that went to Wolves, so if those figures are correct we got £5.5mil plus Peter Crouch.

The 2019/20 accounts seemed to show that some outstanding transfer debt hadn't been paid on schedule, but it was £2.4m not £5.2m

Are you saying they paid the fees owed in 19/20? Or didn’t and we’re still payable? If they’d missed a payment it might explain the price we’ve been able to agree.
