What some people don’t realise is that they can also incriminate themselves, which is why I only have about 10 minutes capacity on my SD cards - I keep a spare in the glovebox so I can swap out if needed.

No. No.
Although I have often thought about this being made compulsory going forward, and maybe the footage being auto downloaded to the police. Lost count of the amount of road races I come across whilst going about my business. Driving standards would certainly improve if road users knew they were being monitored, but already i can hear the dissenting voices… I’d prefer real traffic police, but they cost money so that’s out.
Traffic light cameras should also be installed at all major traffic lights.

No I don't, but it is something I've seriously started to consider for my work car and if I switch to a moped I'll definitely get one.
I'm not looking to get one for my non work car just yet.
Should they be compulsory?
With the amount of really poor driving I see every single day, people who can't read road markings, signs, miss traffic lights and just wander all over the place part of me thinks they should be.
The Milton/Didcot roundabout on the A34 has weekly accidents and daily near misses on it because people miss the traffic lights...a VW passat T-boned a Citroen Suv just on Friday.
I had one person today stop at a green light in front of me.
Thankfully their driving was already making me wary, so I was prepared for that act of sheer stupidity.
A bloke in Newbury decided to reverse his van into a moped at the lights and then hopped out claiming the rider had gone into the back of him.
That cost him a visit from the police cos the moped had a camera on it
If every car, van and bike had cameras, I'd fully expect insurance payouts and premiums to drop dramatically.

Im not for making it compulsory but if it was it would at least clear the road of all those OAP drivers who lets be honest are the real dangers
Granted 17-21 year old kids aren't the best drivers but they have confidence and quick reactions that normally see's them ok. The OAPs who do about 25 mph up Padiham road whilst clinging on to the steering wheel for dear life are an accident waiting to happen.
Id rather see people have to resit their driving test when they hit 55 and then have to take it again every 5 years until they reach 80 when that should be the end of their driving career.

though i would say that people who don't indicate at junctions and especially at roundabouts should be taken out by specialist snipers.

Im in Bradford a lot (or was pre Covid) and used to drive across to Manningham twice a week to play footy and they seem on the most part very good decisive drivers. Still has the coffin dodgers crawling along like all places but I find driving through Bradford quite pleasant

yeah like i said you wanna try living there. i used to live on great horton road and the amount of 'real dangers' will have your hair falling out.
the front page of the tele and argos only yesterday had some tit jailed for running a red light and flipping a car over. 22 years old.
old drivers might be frustrating but they usually aren't dangerous.
edit: and anyone finding driving through bradford as being 'quite pleasant' is a masochist.

it clearly shows that 16-39 year olds are statistically more likely to be involved in a fatal accident than 40-69 year olds and 80+ year olds are less likely to be involved in a fatal accident than 20-29 year olds.

The old people I’ve encountered on the road drive sensibly the wisdom throughout the years as stood them in good stead, it’s noticeable whenever you see the accidents & stops it’s the young uns driving too fast & often under the influence, some old people might be slow & dithering but it’s speed that kills, experiencing any impact collision at 20mph or 60mph I know where I fancy my chances.

Absolutely right. However I do know that most people aren’t perfect drivers and will often break speed limits momentarily or misjudge the timings at traffic lights for example, both are instances where if, after a serious incident, the police took possession of your footage you may come unstuck.
EDIT: I will say though that the benefits of a Dash Cam far outweigh any negatives. For me personally I was able to prove without any doubt that I was the innocent party it a 4 car shunt (I was in the middle) and my insurance company thanked me for the footage as it proved liability quickly and got a quick result for all the innocent drivers. It was also useful for the doctors involved in my whiplash assessment too because it demonstrated the force at which the car was hit

Usually fitted in cars driven by the most useless drivers, where their sheer incompetence encourages other drivers to behave in a way they normally wouldn't.

Decided to get my dashcam after someone pulled out of a side street and hit the side of my car, and tried to blame me. Ironically, I was on my home from physio after another accident where someone slid into the back of me in the snow.
Only time I’ve needed to use it since was when some absolute pr!ck tried to run me off the road because he thought I’d cut him up, but he was in the wrong lane at the roundabout just down from Burnley college. It was not long after they’d redone it and loads of people were using the left hand land to turn right for some reason.
Stupidly I didn’t get a helmet cam when I got my motorbike and someone pulled out of a side street in front of me. Clipped my back wheel as I tried to avoid them and came off. Have a helmet cam now.
In short yes I have one, yes I highly recommend, no they shouldn’t be required by law.

Slightly OT question but i thought i would ask if anyone else has experienced similar issues. I was coming down Belvedere road yesterday towards the traffic lights near Turf Moor and indicated right to make a turn towards the town centre. The lights were still on green as i was going through but to my astonishment as i was going through the lights to make my turn the car on the opposite side of the road started to set off to turn left onto the same road resulting on a very near collision. The driver was having a go at me (rightly if his lights was on green too) but as my lights were on green it confused my as to why it happened in the first place. Ha anyone else experienced similar issues at those lights?

Those lights are green on both sides, you should have waited for the traffic from the other side to clear before turning right.

if its where I think it is (
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.78909 ... 312!8i6656) then you only have right of way if the green filter arrow is illuminated, on green light only its a "normal" right turn junction

dont beat yourself up too much, lesson learnt. Things like that will usually catch out the best of drivers if they're not being fully attentive to what's in front of them or its not familiar. Important thing is no one was hurt eh, and you learnt from it.

Absolutely. I consider myself a very careful driver. I drive with my baby daughter in the back and always stick by the rules which is why i was baffled yesterday but still being relatively new on the road, i will get this from time to time.

But now, someone with a dash-cam has posted the footage on Facebook and people are making comments about your mistake.
I was driving with someone the other day, I spotted up the road that someone was being a bit hesitant approaching junction, he was in the wrong lane so I slowed down and flashed my lights to let him in, and then the guy moved over but he didn't indicate or wave. My passenger was scoffing about the guys bad driving and got angry.

I don't know about dash cams, but the new highway code rule changes are great. The one that replaces Mirror Signal Manoeuvre with just Manoeuvre while driving on motorways. The other one, where you are no longer required to give any indication whatsoever when leaving a roundabout, is also most welcome.

I'm not at either end of the spectrum shown on that chart, but although, yes, it shows what you say that it shows, it is completely misleading as it doesn't take into account the numbers of those within that age group actually alive, or how many miles they drive. I imagine that if they put in an extra group at the top of 100+ year old drivers, that they would look to be the safest drivers around with next to no accidents.........

It isn't clearly indicated, of course.
However, if you can find the 2010 changes:-
"I can drive in the middle lane if there is no-one in front of me"
"It is ok not to indicate if I am taking my child to school in my 4x4"
and
"The lane on the left hand side is for BMW drivers only when there is a queue in the other lanes"
Then these new rules are to be found immediately after them.

Dash Cams are a protection against cash for crash scams where the crims have a car load of folk in front and brake suddenly causing a rear end shunt in the knowledge that it is accepted wisdom that the car behind is too close.
In go the claims for spurious whiplash injuries, bumping your insurance premiums up or they demand cash so as not to report, and then report it anyway.

A bloke I worked with was at a junction behind a car that reversed into him, then driver and passenger got our saying they were hurt your a bad driver etc, witnesses from a nearby shop came out with the same story, fortunately he had a dash cam that proved he was reversed into and this gang had done numerous people with this scam, didn't know the outcome from court but for such incidents they are priceless.
I haven't got one but should, they shouldn't be mandating insurers should offer discounts and if you film dangerous driving and your dashcam footage is evidence you should be awarded a public service financial gratuity.

Today in pretty much exactly the same spot, we've got a Golf thats smacked the drivers side rear of an audi a3, which judging from the damage could well be written off.
One of them has missed the red light and I'd put my money on the golf based on how often I see cars from that direction go straight through the red lights on that side.

You omitted the ones which say that a red traffic light is just the same as a green one and that the inside lane on a motorway is out of bounds.
