Random question - can road markings just be changed?

The road outside my house has been resurfaced in the last week, the road markings have been repainted today, but the junction has been switched.

Is this a cock up or can the markings be changed without planning or consultation?

Can be done, for good reason. Usually, it is as a result of local input, sometimes, to improve safety, somewhere there is a concern.

I thought they must put a sign up saying new road layout?

If that was the case then I would fully support a change.

However, this is a result of road resurfacing and then the markings being put in a different place to what they once were. Which, in my opinion, makes road safety worse!

I think it’s a cock up. I’ve emailed the local highways team to make them aware!

It’s all about whether the Council require a permanent Traffic Regulation Order or not. The Department of Transport will be able to assist you on this if you are not happy. For example the Council should propose road marking changes on their website. Some will require a TRO some will not. Each proposal goes through a few stages before it can be agreed and implemented. For all proposals, there is time for local people and businesses to give feedback. If the proposal doesn't need a TRO then the proposal can be implemented once feedback has been considered and any changes have been made. If the proposal does need a TRO it will move on to formal consultation. The proposal and legal notice should be published on their website. The legal notice should be displayed at the location of the proposal (for example on a nearby lamp post).

This one sounds like a dodgy paint job!
