ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
Finally got round to doing this - started in 2016 when Claretforever kindly sent me his list and I've gone back and added to it. I've got it to 209 games now having included the three streamed League Cup games last season.

Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
Was that the norm back then to only show 1 half live of games on tv ?

The Chelsea game is way before my time but the two Hamburg games were definitely second half. Not sure about whether it was the norm though.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 11:30 amWas that the norm back then to only show 1 half live of games on tv ?
Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
Was curious as to how Pay-TV worked in the 60's. Sounds like viewers had a box under their telly to put money in!
So for our game against Arsenal in 1967 fans would have had to put a few coins in the box.

Correct. A good mate of mine was a TV repair man and went round to one property to find that someone had taken an axe to the TV to raid the payments boxSpijed wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 12:59 pmWas curious as to how Pay-TV worked in the 60's. I’d no idea about this but it was available in London & Sheffield according to that link.Spijed wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 12:59 pmWas curious as to how Pay-TV worked in the 60's. Sounds like viewers had a box under their telly to put money in!

BBC TV transmission in the north only started in October 1951 when the Holme Moss transmitter was opened.
The 1947 Cup final would only have been seen on televisions in the London area.

Yes indeed it's staggering to imagine in this age that we went 27 years between the Arsenal cup tie in 67, and the Boro game in 94 without being televised, even our semi-finals against Swindon, Newcastle & Liverpool didn't even warrant TV cameras, although whether Bob Lord had a bearing on that I don't know, it's well-known that Bob wasn't exactly a fan of televised footy was he.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 1:19 pmMakes you realise just how much football in on tv nowadays.
Now I may be totally wrong, but wasn't our 3rd round FA Cup tie at home to Man City in 1991 not featured on the box, or is my memory playing tricks again?

Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
The Liverpool 1st leg at Anfield in 1983 had just the highlights shown on a MOTD special but only the FA Cup Final was shown live back then.tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:07 pmYes indeed it's staggering to imagine in this age that we went 27 years between the Arsenal cup tie in 67, and the Boro game in 94 without being televised, even our semi-finals against Swindon, Newcastle & Liverpool didn't even warrant TV cameras, although whether Bob Lord had a bearing on that I don't know, it's well-known that Bob wasn't exactly a fan of televised footy was he.

Blimey! different days entirely, and I guess that's one of the reasons FA Cup Final day was such a big deal in those days, as often that would be the only domestic footy available to consume.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:11 pmThe Liverpool 1st leg at Anfield in 1983 had just the highlights shown on a MOTD special but only the FA Cup Final was shown live back then.
During my youth in the 1980's I only recall the Home internationals, the World Cup Finals/European Championships & perhaps the odd international or big European game being screened live.
There was of course MOTD & The Big Match amongst the various highlights packages, and Sportsnight I think was another show which had footy highlights in it's coverage.
But compared to the mass of channels and online services available now it was a lean time for footy fans in those days.

The cup final was the only domestic game screened live. It’s hard to explain to people now just how big a competition the FA Cup was.tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:26 pmBlimey! different days entirely, and I guess that's one of the reasons FA Cup Final day was such a big deal in those days, as often that would be the only domestic footy available to consume.

Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
I don’t think it was, all the YouTube footage I can find was lifted from ESPN Live with foreign commentary, the home tie certainly was though. My friends had a drinking game planned - shots for - goals, goal attempts, corners and so on.duncandisorderly wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:57 pmWas the FA Cup replay away at Blackburn not televised?
They were sober at the final whistle.

I cannot remember which game, but BBC showed another replay instead, remember having to listen to Blackburn replay on 5Live or BBC Radio Lancashire, cannot remember which.duncandisorderly wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:57 pmWas the FA Cup replay away at Blackburn not televised?

Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
Thanks ever so much for that. I went through and through looking at the Europa League games and couldn't find that, which I have now with your prompting. I've now added it to the list.clarets1978 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 8:55 amOlympiakos away was shown live on the short lived Eleven Sports, missing from the list

Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
Brentford v Southampton and Sheffield United v Arsenal were played the same night. I suspect it would be the Sheff U v Arsenal game that was shown.claretburns wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 10:11 amI cannot remember which game, but BBC showed another replay instead, remember having to listen to Blackburn replay on 5Live or BBC Radio Lancashire, cannot remember which.

Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
Are there any Barnsley fixtures on Sky missing?
Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
I guess the list only applies to english games, but growing up in Sweden we had some games on TV not on the list. On the programmes Tipsextra/Tipslördag
06/01/1973 Aston Villa 0-3 Burnley
17/11/1973 Leicester 2-0 Burnley
17/01/1976 Burnley 1-2 Derby remember that game as Leighton James had been sold to Derby.....
28/01/1995 Burnley 0-0 Liverpool (FA-cup) when we had Andy Saville on loan and Liam Robinson on the wing... have it on VHS somewhere
10/02/2001 Burnley 1-2 Crystal Palace
17/11/2001 Coventry 0-2 Burnley
12/01/2002 Wimbledon 0-0 Burnley
30/03/2002 Burnley 2-3 Wolves
19/10/2002 Leicester 0-1 Burnley

Re: ARTICLE: When have the Clarets been on television?
That performance at Villa in 1973 was special but the 0-0 draw at Wimbledon on my 50th birthday was anything but.mikaelj wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 2:20 pmI guess the list only applies to english games, but growing up in Sweden we had some games on TV not on the list.
