Trippier

Makes me somewhat proud to see an ex Burnley player doing so well and involved with England.

Did he improve so much when he went to Spurs or did we really have an unbelievable player for a few seasons?

Naive of me earlier this season to think we had a chance of him coming back in the summer. Very naive. Spurs must be scratching their heads.

I first saw him in a friendly at Oldham. And Ben Mee played that night along with Austin.

I honestly saw two players far better than anything I’d seen in a long time for us that night in mee and trips even though it was a crap friendly.

Also through their time here so two players completely commited to the cause and able to connect with and relate to the fans.

He’s a top player. Plays like the sort of kid in the playground who just loves playing.

That game at Oldham was his first game for us. We conceded an early corner and he took one post with Alex MacDonald taking the other. I couldn’t tell them apart.

Ben Mee didn’t play in the game though.

He’d been here about 6 months before we signed Austin?

Edit sorry no that’s wrong.

A lot of credit has to go to our manager, without a doubt.

Was sure mee played. May be wrong. But I definitely remember trippier playing. Did we sign them both round them? Think Austin played and looked unfit.

Mee came in on loan before we went off to the South West but Trippier came in on the day of the Oldham game.

Thought they both joined at the same time.

I stand corrected on mee. But definitely remember being impressed by trips and also mee in that pre season thinking just how good they looked. And how out of shape Austin looked.

We were incredibly fortunate to have a player like Tripps looking back

Potential for a Trippier-Vydra match up in the semi-final's that could be fun, although Vyds will have to get on the pitch first.

Yeah we were a great platform for him to develop and gain experience, top player. Now he's taking corners for England, was he our corner taker? I swear he wasn't but my memory is shocking. I remember him scoring 1 free kick for Burnley in a cup game.

Was just wondering why he never took free kicks for us…

He definitely had a spell taking them, he used to do the old Didier Drogba dipping swerving side foot technique but they never went in
Wallace was good with freekicks though.

No. We had Tyrone Mears on Free Kicks and Harry Kane on corners.

Trippier was a fantastic player for us and I thought he would go on to great things. I think he has changed his attitude towards fitness over the last few years. He looks lean now and, at times, could look a bit chunky at Burnley. I heard he liked a bit of partying whilst at Burnley, which isn't a problem if it didn't affect his performances. He looks like he looks after himself more now.

Plateaued at Spurs for me. His amazing delivery with us disappeared in his second year there. He has come on massively with Atletico. Far better defender now.
What a waste that pass he laid back to Walker was. Just needed a clip into the box and Walker totally froze.

Yes he’s certainly looks to have improved his fitness. One of the best crosses of the ball we’ve had, how many more goals would Chris Wood have scored with tripps launching them over. Interesting listening to Charlie Austin recently who mention how Dyche hammered him whilst on pre season, he sat him down and told him I’m going to get you fit, Austin said he worked and worked him to death, but eventually he had never been as fit, he was very complimentary of Dyche.

I seem to remember he went on about 4 holidays in 1 summer whilst Howe was in charge.

Actually played well with Wallace who he used for 'wall' passes quite often. They supplied the Vokes and Ings partnership with some great service. I am pleased for him and hope he gets that winners medal now. I think we can do it but Spain and Italy are formidable. But then again France and Germany were!!!

I’m more concerned about Belgium.

I'm really really pleased for him. He said that it was Sean Dyche who got him to change his ways and become more professional. He's just got better and better. He said that his defending has improved massively at Athletico and I think it shows. His pass completion percentages with us were poor but I think that was largely down to the fact that he put in a cross at every opportunity. He seems much more measured now and he's certainly brought plenty to the team in each appearance at the Euros. I really hope he keeps his place. He'll always be one of my favourite ex clarets.

Was that against Preston? Think I was there but missed it because of a massive queue getting in at the turnstiles. They only opened a few for some reason

It was against Preston, and rather than being a great free kick that he scored, it was a very poor attempt from the keeper to save it.

Interesting Trippier stat

He has created the second most goal scoring chances across the World Cup and Euros.

Pretty impressive for a RB

The first time I saw Trippier and Mee was at a home friendly v Sunderland I think? I remember being very impressed, especially by Trips, bombing up the right wing

Trippier really benefitted from the move to Spurs and working under Poch and I think the step up was at the perfect time in his career. He commented once about the levels of fitness required playing for a top side like Spurs and playing with top players under a really good coach really helped him grow from a promising Premier league player under us to an England international

As mentioned above towards the end at Spurs he seemed to lose his way a bit but again another well timed move to another top team with another top coach has helped him again take his game to another level

From the City academy to where he is now he has seemed to get the right moves and play under the right managers at all the right times. Always one of my favourite players and the way he celebrated the goals against the bast8rds was a jot to watch
