Taken a lot of stick on here. He's been immense. Not a chance Pope gets in ahead of him now.

He has been magnificent in this tournament. I am not a Southgate fan but have to admit he has been right about Pickford and his team selection last night, which got a lot of criticism including me , when it was announced.

I’m one of Pope’s advocates and I genuinely thought Pope was better than Pickford for some time, still do think that to an extent, and I don’t think Pope will get another chance unless Pickford picks up a long term injury.
But, Pickford for me has done nothing wrong, in fact he’s done a lot right. His whole demeanour this tournament has been improved, and that has led to confidence across the back - everything that Pope does and Heaton did for Burnley over the past years Pickford is doing for England.
I DOFF my cap to him, well done and keep it up.

But otherwise I agree. He's been immense for a punchable little scrote.

Played very well yesterday.
Keeps improving like he has done, he'll be 95% as good as Nick.

Only made two saves and he’s getting rave reviews. His kicking is an eye opener, smooth as silk. Still terrifies me at dead balls between the 6yd line and the penalty spot. He comes out with no confidence of getting there.
He has made very few errors for England so deserves his place.

I'm yet another to be impressed with his goal-stopping ability and think that when he's needed to in this tournament, he's been 'almost as good' as Nick Pope; he's always been better than NP at subsequent distribution of the ball and in just that same way, Maguire, Stones and even Mings have shown why they're picked for England rather than Tarkowski and Mee, they've proved almost/equally as good defensively, but are streets ahead in creativity. I don't think it matters if/where JT moves to, he isn't going to make the National side.

Outstanding, I’ve always been an admirer of his. Pope is a good keeper but a long way short of Pickford.

He's had a very poor season for Everton, so much so that he has been coached by a psychiatrist for the last year to get his head right, we're seeing the results now as he's a lot calmer. His distribution remains far better than Pope's, he's had a good tournament and is handling the big occasions better. It's obvious that Pope is a far better shot-stopper and claimer of crosses (in other words, goal-keeping basics) - look at the figures for the last two seasons and there is a huge difference in performance.

Pickford has had arguably his best season in an Everton shirt. Everton fans argued he should have won player of the season.
Pickford is a country mile the best keeper England have.
Could see him ending up at a bigger club in the next few seasons.

Strange seeing how he was dropped twice, had to be reassured by his manager about his position and realised how poor his form was and sort help from outside football for his troubles.

Just simply going of what a lot of Everton fans are saying.
I think he’s absolutely immense. Same with Declan Rice, he will be a top top player in a few years

The first save from Timo Wener came from a terrible Pickford clearance (there were a few in the game). Its a little odd that his often poor recent kicking doesn't get a mention.
He looked to go down a little early for Mullers chance.
He still looks pretty shakey coming for crosses..
Saying all that he did make a couple of nice saves.

Both Pope and Pickford are top class keepers albeit with different attributes. For the way Burnley set up and play I wouldn't swap Pope for anyone and definitely not Pickford but for England id have Pickford all the way.
Pickford has proved he is a top keeper in the shot stopping department but also key to Englands style is the way we move it around the back and between defence and midfield and Pickfords assuredness on the ball is vital to this.
There were times yesterday that Germany pressed us well but Walker, Maguire and Stones were able to use Pickford as a pivot under pressure to keep possession and play around the German press
As a Burnley and England fan I am lucky to have two great keepers perfect for the teams they play for.

I'm sure it was a fist putting that ball over....Try Tipping it with his fingers and it would have been in the net with the power in that shot... he got a split second decision spot on!

Just the two things….
1. Not a country mile better. He’s good and he’s playing well, but a country mile better than any of the others? Nope. Not true.
2. Everton ARE a bigger club. Ask any Everton fan…

He did that badboy was a rocket, he must have flicked his wrists the fingers independently working aren’t influencing much of the destination direction.

Pickford thus far has impressed me in this tournament, and what's caught my eye is his calmness, I don't know if this is something Gareth and the coaches have been working on in training or not, but JP hasn't been the frantic figure we sometimes saw playing for Everton last season, notably in his rash tackle on VVD, now it might well be that playing behind a solid defence is aiding his overall game, one slight grumble some of his kicking his been askew at times, which I must admit is rare for him as that's the one aspect of his game he's always been strong in.
You don't win big tournaments unless you've got a solid keeper and defence, and so far England certainly possess both those assists, hence the 4 cleans sheets which gives us a great base to build upon.

I'm guessing a lot of the plaudits for Pickford relate to his tip over from Guy Havertz,
Given the height differential, Nick Pope would have tipped it over without having to jump.
On the other hand, Tom Heaton would have caught it

He saved 1v1 against Havertz and he also narrowed the angle for Müller which made it a much more difficult chance than is being made out. His use of the ball was also top class.

Muller fortunately screwed the shot wide because he sent Pickford the wrong way. The save from Havertz looked spectacular because it was spectacular.

I thought he, JP, did as good as could be expected with that one.
I have this idea: why don't we get right behind Pickford for the rest of the Euros after all it's not his fault that Nick Pope isn't England's No1. We will have seasons of fun removing the urine from him .

Thankyou.
I have never at any time said that I "hate" England. As you are stalking me why don't you go back through all my posts and find evidence to back up your comment.
As for the game I thought I'd give it a go.
If you followed the match thread you would see that I posted that I do find watching England uncomfortable.
I don't enjoy the games particularly, and I don't much care for our style of play, though i have to say that the 2nd half last night was a vast improvement.

pickford rightfully deserved all the flak, pope is a far better keeper. germany are a spent force anyway, and who have england had to face really? a toothless scotland team and the other lightweights from the opening group. why would critics of his from previous days suddenly decide to change their spots ? emperors new clothes syndrome probably.
