Paddy McGuinness
....... to be new host of "Question of Sport"
Another BBC programme that I will no longer be watching.
Your thoughts?
Edit: Even though Sam Quek will be one of the team captains

I thought they’d announced Alex Scott to replace Sue Barker.

Should be fun. In regard to Alex Scott isn’t she replacing Dan Walker on Football Focus.

Needed a refresh, with hosts that the public can relate too.
Paddy does a good job on Top Gear, and I suspect he will do alright on here.
Fairly sure there were some unhappy people when Sue took over and she did a cracking job.
Tufnell hasn't been that amusing for a while now so I'm glad he's also gone.

Agree Paddy fits in well for Top Gear, I haven't watched Question of Sport for donkeys so I'm fairly nonplussed as to who stars in it.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 11:09 amNeeded a refresh, with hosts that the public can relate too.

However I have had the dubious pleasure of Tuffers on TMS, and his humour can become wearing after a while, so if he's exhibiting that persona on QOS then I can see why the powers that be would seek a change.

Hang on, I thought sacking Sue Barker was some sort of Woke, box ticking thing?
Re: Paddy McGuinness
Don't really get the Paddy McGuinnes hate
Great in Phoenix nights
Awful as a standup
Very good on that dating show (if you like that type of programme)
Very good on Top Gear
If you had the misfortune to watch that Peter Crouch Euros show, it is a talent to be a natural as an off the cuff type of presenter, and that show is pretty cringy and wooden (and I quite like Crouch in general).
Ant and Dec and Stephen Mulherne are very good, and Paddy is pretty good as well.

Re: Paddy McGuinness
I don’t know how Crouch gets airtime. Maybe because he’s extremely tall and once did a silly robotic dance. Not remotely funny or interesting imo.
Re: Paddy McGuinness
Pleased about Quek, she's a good laugh. Not sure about McGuinness and Ugo - will give one episode a go and see what happens.

Re: Paddy McGuinness
McGuinness’s main talent as far as I have ever been able to see is being friends with Peter Kay. Ability wise I personally think he was a great loss to the swimming bath attendant community and would welcome his return to Bolton baths.

BBC...the great dumbing down continues apace...theyre gonna capture that single figure IQ audience if it kills them.

Maybe not highbrow stuff but some of the earlier chaps like Cliff Morgan and Gareth Edwards look like Einstein in comparison to this shower.

Just another example of dumbing down mainstream television, I find him ok in very small doses.

Totally agree on the Peter Crouch show, I caught an episode after the Ukraine game, and it's not even funny bad it's just bad.Ric_C wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 1:42 pmDon't really get the Paddy McGuinnes hate

Of all the crap that's been on TV that I can recall in the last 30-40yrs, it's Paddy McGuiness that's dumbing down television....ok then.

One of the great advantages of only watching streamed TV is that I avoid all the cr*p shows and participants/ presenters like this.

Re: Paddy McGuinness
I can’t say I’m a big fan of Paddy McGuinness, I don’t watch any of the programmes he’s on but he doesn’t bother me. Some people on here seem to have a very unhealthy dislike of him.
As for dumbing down QOS, that programme has been utter bonk for some time now. Half an hour of backslapping each other for answering completely routine questions about their specialist area of sport. Barker, whilst being a good presenter, added very little to a show that seemed to be aimed at pensioners. Obviously nothing wrong with that but not hard to see why they’re looking to freshen it up.

Max and paddy and Phoenix nights was quality, but being alongside Peter Kay must make comedy easier. Take me out was absolutely abysmalGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 4:38 pmOf all the crap that's been on TV that I can recall in the last 30-40yrs, it's Paddy McGuiness that's dumbing down television....ok then.

Re: Paddy McGuinness
Take me out was no worse or better than any other naff dating show like Blind Date etc.
Years of naff reality shows with z list celebs or wannabes are dumbing down TV way more than Paddy ever will
Top Gear has seen a leap of viewing numbers upwards to approx 5.5 Million viewers, after it had dropped to approx 2.5-7 million
Still less than Clarkson etc who peaked at 7 million but it's not bad.
He's daft, but relatable for many people.

Re: Paddy McGuinness
QOS lost its appeal when it started trying to be funny.
There were enough funny moments that came naturally in the earlier seasons.
The forced crap of Dawson etc al, it just became a parody of itself. It was also very predictable.
Why can't it just be a serious sports quiz again, and let the gags fall as they will.

Saw him in TGIF in Prestwich once, he was out with his family. Few people grabbed a selfie and he was happy to do so.No big I am about him, down to earth local lad out having a meal. Don't get the hate for him.

Done well for himself and clearly a more than competent TV presenter and comedy actor. Always seems down to earth and has done a lot for charity, particularly autism. Do wonder what people see sometimes.

Re: Paddy McGuinness
I don't mind him at all, got lucky with Peter Kay being his mate but holds his own given all things Bolton became the height of 'must have' TV fashion.
