Quiz Question - May '79

Post by Devils_Advocate » Sat Jul 10, 2021 12:53 pm

Watched a football documentary this morning where Burnley made a cameo appearance with regards the date in the title.

Without googling (and for those who have not seen the documentary) can you guess what the documentary was and what was Burnley's cameo appearance?

Mrs Thatcher's first Election win was May 1979 ...... any connection ? ( NB: Note to mods - Not a political comment ) :)

May would be end of season. Was it Crystal Palace away last game of season? Their record crowd.

We lost 2-0 at Palace in front of their record crowd of over 51,000 as they sealed promotion. Beyond that..and the fact that my 18th birthday was that month, I have no idea.

Wasn't Bernard Inghams a Burnley fan. He was the witches right hand man?

Just read he came from Hebden Bridge.

That was my thought. We were never going to win that night given the massive fall out between Bob Lord and Sunderland because of Jimmy Adamson.

Yep, showed the goals from that game charting his time as Palace manager. Its on Sky docs and well worth a watch even if just to relive some of Euro 96

Such a great coach and manager and a real shame that the business disputes he got entangled in got in the way of him carrying on with the England team

There was also Len Cantello's testimonial where Cantello's WBA select team of all white players played Cyril Regis's team of all Black Players covered by Adrian Chiles. Couldn't see any link tenuous or otherwise to Burnley though.
