The Lee Briscoe substitution

So a strange memory flitted through my head the other day and I was hoping someone could fill in the hazy details.
We were playing at home and I think Stan was the manager.
We went 2-0 down very early and Stan brought an attacker off and brought Lee Briscoe on.
The crowd was not happy.
Briscoe turned the game around (scoring a couple?) and we ended up winning.
Turns out a professional football manager knows more about tactics than I did.
I'd appreciate anyone being able to provide more information.

It was against Walsall and he replaced Ian Moore. He came on and scored two goals.
We eventually won the game 5-2

Was it 1989, beating Macclesfield 4-3. Steve Davies got the winner

It was against Walsall in 2001/02.
We were 2-1 up and Stan brought him on for Ian Moore. As your say, crowd not impressed. He scored a couple, think we ended up winning 5-2

Didn't Paul Cook score a 30 yard lob in the same game?

1999 that one. Briscoe hadn't signed for us by that point. Remember Tom Cowan scoring a beauty

Lee Briscoe didn't like football, IRRR.

Just checked his wiki page and it looks like after leaving Burnley he only played a couple of games for Preston before retiring. Must have only been 28 or 29.
What happened there? Did he get an injury?

From what I gathered, it didn't care much for football, he had no interest in it.

Already been answered, was the Walsall game when he came on for Ian Moore. We were 2-1 up at the time but Walsall equalised soon after before Briscoe scored twice in three minutes.

Glad to get it cleared up, memory is a strange thing. Fun to see that Cook goal again, had completely forgotten it.
Edit: Thanks to everyone.

Just dug out my report and I wrote, with Burnley cruising at 2-0 and so much on top:
I still can’t believe what happened next as Walsall pulled one back and then just after the hour equalised with a Steve Davis own goal. In between the two goals Stan had tried to tighten it up by replacing the impressive Ian Moore with Lee Briscoe and upset many of the supporters in doing so. It’s not a decision I would have made but as I have said before that’s why I pay for my seat and Stan is down there making those decisions.

Guy I used to work with a few years ago knew and played 5 aside football with Briscoe (from Normanton). As said he wasn't a massive fan of the whole professional side of the game and to him it was a job but he did love his football and enjoyed doing a lot of coaching work with Sheff Wed and still loved playing footy socially with his mates

Do i remember him being sent off at Fulham? Around 2000 when the fuel strikes were in full swing. I think we took the lead quite early and had a blatant penalty turned down after one of our forwards, possibly Andy Cooke was rugby tackled in the area and the ref gave nothing. I was stood just behind John SImm on the open terrace.

Not sure about the red but I remember Chris Coleman rugby tackling (was it Cooke?) our player in the box, was fuming! Thought we lost 3-0 but memory might be evading me, didn't Louis Saha score a couple?
Edit to say it was 3-1, Cook scored after 10 to take the lead and Briscoe was sent off after 80 mins.

Did he score a winner at Hillsborough on the opening day 199? Remember local radio before scoffing at his move to us and saying he wouldnt get anywhere near their team..

Spot on, and Chris Coleman knew he was going to be sent off only to see referee Trevor Parkes, who was a shocking referee, give nothing. They went straight down and equalised and went on to beat us 3-1 with the free kick for which Briscoe was sent off leading towards the third goal.

That was it, Chris Coleman. Blatant and had we scored would have put us 2 up.

I didn't rate Lee Briscoe one bit.
