So are the Trialists three sets of twins, two sets of triplets or a set of sextuplets?

Did they fill the bench or was there a few missing, allegedly to prove a point to the board...??ClaretTony wrote: βWed Jul 14, 2021 1:51 pmI went to the u23 friendly v Sheffield in 2015 and this was the team.

It would be amazing g if a team with that many strangers in it could get a result.
A good work out, and some good performances , fingers crossed.

Re: U23s v Rangers
Does the line up mean Max Thompson and Lewis Richardson are working out with the first team
I hope they both get more time from the bench this season, another couple of additions from the youth system is always good for the coffers

I think Rangers B start their season on Saturday, so would expect them to be a good way ahead.

Re: U23s v Rangers
Did we not take a different Armstrong on trial though? A Scottish kid who's Dad was speaking about it, I remember seeing your article on it last week. (I may have got the surname wrong).ClaretTony wrote: βWed Jul 14, 2021 3:28 pmNo idea but Armstrong is Finlay Armstrong who has moved up from the U18s

It was Armstrong, sorry I hadn't thought of him. He's only 16 though.

Doesn't help when he concedes four but I remember a match on the Turf back in the 1960s when we put five past Leicester goalkeeper Gordon Banks yet he was the man of the match that day.superdimitri wrote: βWed Jul 14, 2021 5:55 pmwell I guess you can safely say trialist goalkeeper won't have impressed.

Re: U23s v Rangers
I suppose this game could be seen as a fitness exercise more than anything else.
IMHO playing lots of trialists tells the coaches very little about them.

Both Tom H and Popey signed for us after shipping 4 or 5 goals scored by us in their last matches for Brizzle C and Charlton respectively ...ClaretTony wrote: βWed Jul 14, 2021 6:16 pmDoesn't help when he concedes four but I remember a match on the Turf back in the 1960s when we put five past Leicester goalkeeper Gordon Banks yet he was the man of the match that day.

Re: U23s v Rangers
Cheers Nick, these are the names of those allegedly training with the first teamers who have their chance to make the first team squad.
Max Thompson and Lewis Richardson, defenders Anthony Glennon, Richard Nartey, Calen Gallagher-Allison and Bobby Thomas, midfielder Adam Phillips and goalkeeper Lewis Thomas.
I guess that if they don't make the cut, BFC will try and find loan moves for the majority of them with a view the enhancing their capability or selling them on. My guess is that Phillips is the closest as he had two decent spells on loan last season, albeit at a lower level, alternatively a loan spell with a Championship club might be feasible, dependent on there being sufficient cover in the midfield department, an area which currently needs more bodies and a more youthful reinvigoration, as apart from Brownhill and McNeil they are all 30+.
I note that Benson is not among either group.

Re: U23s v Rangers
Benson is with the first team. Phillips is no longer under 23.
Re: U23s v Rangers
Phillips is an interesting one. Given his age he'll leave for nothing next Summer whilst he's actually the loanee of ours who has performed the best. Was one of, if not, the best player in League 2 and whilst the EPL is a big step up it's not unheard of.ClaretTony wrote: βThu Jul 15, 2021 10:08 amBenson is with the first team. Maybe we're giving him preseason to prove himself then sell if he doesn't? A loan would make little sense without a significant fee.
