Very sad news. Met him on the train to Edinburgh in 2001 and he was happy to talk. A fine player on his day, but his weight and then weight loss, coupled with his day-to-day health issues, have not seen this come as a surprise sadly. His BDO win was a great moment for darts.

Not in good shape when he appeared on Celebrity Fitness Club on the tele several years ago. Got out of breath quickly when exercising and has done well to make it to 59. Promoted the game of darts to a wider public, RIP.

Met Andy Fordham a few years back at a bar in London called the Porter's Lodge where I was playing in a darts tournament. He was the special guest and was supposed to be playing a few legs with the punters and generally adding a bit of star quality to proceedings. But he just sat on his own all evening, drinking beer and generally being a fiserable mucker. My mate offered him £50 for a leg of darts and got turned down. He then offered £100 and got turned down again. Seems the 4 foot walk to the oche was too much of an arseache for him.
I suppose we're all entitled to off days.
