Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
I think the experience gained by being at this level will be key.
Great manager, excellent training facilities, and hopefully adequate backing to fight another campaign
No doubt it will be very tough to compete with the super wealthy opponents, but I reckon we can manage 14th or higher finish with a bit of luck.

We won’t be top 3 or bottom 3. Let’s win a cup.

Ask us again at the end of the transfer window.
I'm generally optimistic, but I do acknowledge that we need more signings or its going to be a long slog of a season.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
It’s really depends. If we go into the season with what we have now. I suspect 17th -19th will be our finishing spot. With Dyche leaving on a free next summer.
If we get 1 CM, 2 wide players, 1 striker I could see us finishing strongly in mid table (approx 52-54 points).
Critical 5 weeks or so ahead.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
Too early to say.
I don’t expect it to be the case, but if we are ‘going with what we’ve got’ I’d be pessimistic about our chances.
Two, being greedy, three decent new signings and I’ll have an entirely different perspective.
We already ask a lot of our first eleven - they need some help.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
Fairly optimistic as I don't think we'll go down not with SD at the helm, however we could do with 1 or 2 quality signings just to give us a boost.
My hopes would be for a reasonably comfortable mid-table finish, and possibly a run in one of the cups to be greedy.
Important we put points on the board early though as we don't want to be playing catch up as we had to endure last season.
I guess the biggest factor will be fans returning to grounds, so you'd hope for a vast improvement in our results at TM, although our points return on the road may suffer if things return to some form of normality.
One good signing in the bag in the form of Collins, and thus far we've managed to hold onto all our stars, so if that remains the case we should enjoy another decent campaign.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
Too early to say. Collins is a good signing, but he's just ONE and we need more. At this precise moment I'm pessimistic, but two or three decent signings (along with Hennesey as GK back up) would change that, depending on who they were.
Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
Injuries are the key as it stands as our current first eleven is too street wise to go down.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
I tend to agree and I believe we realised last term that it's a lack of top quality back up that was a big part of the issue. Whether it was goalie when Pope was injured, CB when Mee or Tarks weren't available, striker when Wood was unfit or midfield when Cork was down. We simply couldn't win games without our first choice XI. Collins now gives us real quality cover at CB and Hennessey would give us similar at GK. We really need some more depth/options in other areas and things will start to really look up. We can't be in a position (again) where we're one key injury from not being able to win a game.

Will answer this at the end of August when I see what further business we have done.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
If we went into the season without adding to the current squad, I would be very pessimistic about our ability to remain in the PL.
Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
Well I won the league today in a football computer game with an average over aged team, a 20 year old midfielder, 4 full backs in defence. Went on a 22 game unbeaten run. It's an omen I tell ya!
Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
We are badly 2-3 short at the minute so ask again at the end of the window. However I'm excited for real football to be back, it's not been the same without fans.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
We are running on empty. Great first signing with Collins, Hennessy if it comes off will be a shrewd acquisition. I think if we can pick up someone like Gallagher on loan from Chelsea for CM, and someone like James of United for RW (maybe too on a loan) we could end up mid table and have some dry powder in January
Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
Not seen anything yet to make me think next season will be any different from last. So it’s a bottom quarter finish for me

Always optimistic. No point in being otherwise.
Got to say that I'm also encouraged by early dealing in the transfer market. Something Sean has always wanted, but rarely got under the old regime.
C'mon you PL Clarets.

The rumour mill will keep turning over names, but ultimately the new owners have to know by now that the team needs new blood. They wont want a repeat of last season any more than the supporters.
Its highly likely that we will be stronger once the season is about to begin.

What about Newcastle can we not almost guarantee them for relegation & then with about 10 games to go change our mind & pretend we never had them in contention.Barlickclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 10:22 pmNo probs staying up, 3 teams who were promoted will struggle, plus Palace and brighton, so let's have a cup run, give us all some excitement.

Norwich have done the right thing sticking with their manager and will be coming back up this season looking at teams like us and Palace and thinking they can finish above us this forthcoming season.

We need at least two wide men for me before we can be more than pessimistic
But still four weeks to go, but no one should be under any illusions how hard it is to get in players that will improve us

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
Last year was our warning shot, we weren't far off relegation fodder for large parts of the season. Collins is a great start, but the reality is he's young and raw, and untested at this level. He has to he seen as a development player behind our two first choice cbs this season.
A cleaner bill of health would certainly help matters, but we also need more proven quality in our first 11 or thereabouts. A winger definitely, a RB to compete with Lowton, an attacking minded CM if we go with a 5 in midfield and personally I'd replace Barnes though I imagine that wouldn't be popular on here.
So at the moment a tad pessimistic I have to say, but hopefully not by kick off.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
Can't disagree with any of that, we are desperately in need of a decent ring winger to take the onus off Dwight being our only real creative spark, RB I'm not unduly concerned about and in a crisis Collins can fill in there for a game or two, another Defour type in midfield would be ideal, but where we find one, and how we finance any deal and salary is another question, I wouldn't be against replacing Barnes if we can get a younger model into the building, he's been a great servant for BFC, however he offered little last season, and I sense he's heading into Vokes territory in terms of his age and career, he'd still be a useful addition for many Championship clubs with his wealth of experience at that level, and we might get a modest fee say 1.5-2m if he wished to move on to get regular footy.willsclarets wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 6:46 amLast year was our warning shot, we weren't far off relegation fodder for large parts of the season. My biggest worry is how many games will Chris Wood play in the PL next season, his goals were absolutely vital to ensuring our survival last term, and without his contribution we'd have been right in the mire.

Re: Optimistic or Pessimistic about the forthcoming season ?
I am pretty confident we will bring in another three players. Nothing seems imminent but we’re being mentioned with a lot of wide players and centre backs, you’d think we are pursuing a couple of wingers and another CB to replace Dunne (and eventually Tarkowski).
Assuming we do get those in (specifically two wide players, it’s absolutely imperative in my eyes as I trust Gudmundsson’s fitness about as much as Brady and Alan Moore’s) so that we have an actual viable option to change a game from the bench etc then I think we will be fine, I really do.
12th.
