He looks more presentable than most of the folk I see going on the Turf. And I'm not sure footballers (or fans) from the 70's are in any position to critique anybody's choice of dress.

Anyone else start humming the following song seeing the OP
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around
Since I was born
And now it's alright, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around

Proper men’s men back in the day, not many ponytails or tattoos or piercings, each to their own I guess, we’ve got the James Cagney & Eddie izzard types everyone’s different.

When my son is old enough to think for and dress himself I would approve of him wearing whatever he felt comfortable wearing. I feel sorry for any child who has a parent who feels that their child has to conform to their dated idea of what constitutes 'normal'.

I think he dresses fantastically. Much better than your average PL player who’s idea of style is just a really expensive hoodie and awful jeans

He looks cool. We are just old.
Re: Gone are the days of
When I used to wear cool gear people would say eg “you’d get your head kicked in if you wore that round Keighley”. Thanks, another good reason not to go to Keighley.

Fantastic thread, this, Steve. Well done to you.
Re: Gone are the days of
I’m not sure taking the **** out of someones attire then posting a picture of the gear you wore back in the old days is such a good idea. Especially when you wore your birds hot pants.

Great and (mainly) lighthearted thread. In my book DCL looks a bit of a tit.

I reckon Dominic Calvert is trolling. He's probably sitting in the cool waters of his private pool while laughing at the fallout on his mobile phone.

Bosscat circa 2019 Turf Moor meet.I had a quick pint with him,he talked about how he been on a cruise with Bradley Walsh & been on Name that tune, but hadn't done so well....0 points,I didn't hang around
Re: Gone are the days of
I looked at the picture before reading the bottom line of the post, and spent a few seconds wondering which of Jordan or Macdonald this was.
I do remember a Kevin Keegan tank top on They Think It's All Over. It's not just modern footballers whose taste in clothes is, shall we say, different from mine.

Re: Gone are the days of
That does seem stupid. Whatever he's got in there could easily fit into his pockets. I think we just have to accept that for some people, fashion is important. Going about dressed like that is no more or less "odd" than going to Star Wars or Buffy the Vampire slayer conventions, or for that matter dressing as a goth or something. I wouldn't do it myself, but live and let live.
(Mind you, Buffy the Vampire slayer was a cracking programme. Though it's hard to believe that Alysson Hannigan is now 47 years old.)
Re: Gone are the days of
Surely he is going to a fancy dress party ?

I suppose it depends on where he was when the photo was taken. You can blend in more easily in certain places like Miami or Beverly Hills than you can in others. But then again he may want to stand out from he crowd and why wouldn’t he. Young fit famous handsome rich. Wish it was me. I’m just a poor boy from a poor family.

Re: Gone are the days of
I know my dad used to disapprove - strongly and vocally - of my baggies, hairstyle and platform shoes in the early 70s. He also wasn't happy about my beer consumption or the black eyes, bruises and cuts I came home with after most home or away games!
Re: Gone are the days of
The 70s was the best time ever to be a teenager/adult for fashion, in-fact both pictures of DCL was almost the same gear that I wore apart from his shoes and handbag, I had platforms, Elton John esc If only I had some photographs to show you just how good I looked, a real bird puller.
