I'm waiting to see who shows an interest in him. Davis was different, he was way above fourth division standard.

How did the link up with Russia come about? I remember playing a friendly at home halfway during the coming season and then further ones in subsequent pre-seasons.

I remember all this so clearly I can't believe it is 20, no sorry 30 years ago. Bloody hell. Steve Davis Mk I and Steve Davis Mk II what a summer.
I always think Steve Davis MkII is a great tragedy, he should have gone down as a Burnley legend, instead he followed Judas, must have been out of morbid curiosity or Stockholm syndrome.
Is he still at Everton?

I'm not certain but I think it was something to do with Teasdale

I think Wigan had a pre-season tour to Russia the year before and faced Dinamo Brest whilst out there.
They then hosted Dinamo Brest in December 1990 and played a home friendly against them the same week that we played them.
So possibly Teasdale's connections maybe came via someone on the board at Wigan at that time.

Great player for us Davies. I assume it was just down to money that he went to Barnsley?

Davis went to play and test himself at a higher level. They were two divisions higher than us at the time and he was far too good for Division 4.

They were two divisions higher than us at the time as well as probably offering more money.
Writing stuff like that about Barnsley makes you realise how far we've come. I think most of us would've regarded Barnsley as a smaller club than us when we were in the same league as them, although they'd probably have a similar level of support to us and a larger "home" catchment potential, just not the same illustrious history.

I always think of Barnsley as being a smaller club than us but that's probably down to me never having seen them play us until we dropped into the third division. At this particular time they were far better than us and it was a good move for Davis. That was a decent fee at the time too. Just to think we'd get nothing for him now in those circumstances.

I thought Davis was one of the best signings that Brian Miller made, think I’m right in thinking that Steve had fallen out with Crewe.

The Supporters Clubs helped pay for Davis too - I found this pic of a supporter handing over the cheque to Brian.

Do you know whereabouts?
It's a while since I've read it. Had a quick flick through to the section at the end of 90-91 and start of 91-92 but can barely find anything re the tour.
