Ben Gibson/Norwich
Interview with Ben Gibson on Talksport talking about his 'rough' time at Burnley again. Let's just face it Ben you wasn't good enough to lace Ben or Tarky's boots.
Also on the subject of Norwich, how do we think they will fair this season ? The Billy Gilmour signing is a brilliant one that I'd of loved us to go for. Will they be dead and buried again by Christmas or do they have a better chance of survival this time with the previous experience behind them.
Also sure I read an article saying the model they want to follow is Burnley. Shows how well run we are.

Not a bad shout, he already has a strong allegiance to Burnley...

Don't get all this animosity towards Ben Gibson. The lad wanted to play football, he probably said and did things that in hindsight he maybe shouldn't have but neither side handled it Very well. Good luck to him.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Norwich sticking with Farke is a good move, similar to when we went down and came back up. Think they will do fine and unfortunately will look at clubs like Burnley, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Newcastle (as well as the other two promoted teams) to finish above this season.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
To be fair, at one point Ben Mee seemed very out of form, we had Gibson sat on the bench and not getting a chance to play.
Pretty sure many on here were wanting Mee to be dropped for Gibson.
It never happened, then something went on that we don't know the full story about and out he went on loan.
He was/is a good CB and had rave reviews that time he had with Boro in the PL, so I'd understand if he was miffed at being unused when Mee wasn't performing that well.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
To be even fairer, the time Mee seemed out of form was in the first few months of Gibson's contract when Gibson was injured following an operation. When Gibson was fit, Mee was playing well.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 12:56 pmTo be fair, at one point Ben Mee seemed very out of form, we had Gibson sat on the bench and not getting a chance to play.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Cutting about in Boro gear while still being paid by us didn't endear him to me, for one thing. If he'd have been on loan to them, and they were paying his wages, then fair enough, but it seemed that we had done him a favour in letting him back up there to get/stay fit, and he acted to goat

There is only one Ben I'm remotely bothered about and that's our captain

Maybe we’ll find out what went wrong with BG when someone writes their memoirs
My ‘Boro supporting friends were devastated when the club sold their best player.
I found it baffling such a talent did not get a game.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
I have no animosity towards Gibson at all.
For various reasons, including bad timing and injury, (not to mention Dyche's loyalty to Mee), things didn't work out for him here, but it wouldn't have taken very much at one point for him to be replacing Mee, and had that happened he would probably be club captain by now.
I have a feeling that the very unpopular Gibson / Hanley partnership could well frustrate us all this season, and scoring against them will be a whole lot more difficult than last time round.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Gibson was out from 26th August to 26th November. If you are saying that he should have played during that period, you're wrong. If you are saying that Mee should have been dropped for Gibson because Mee was playing poorly, you need to cite a time outside that period when Gibson was actually available.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 1:12 pmWeeks, even when fit Mee kept his spot when in poor form.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Very similar to the Vydra issue. And we were far far better when he started last season compared with when he was sat on the bench.
Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
After the Everton hammering on Boxing Day. Personally I'd have dropped Mee along with Joe Hart and given Gibson a go. When he didn't Gibson probably realised he was wasting his time at Burnley.dsr wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 1:51 pmGibson was out from 26th August to 26th November. Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
The Everton game was the one where he did give Gibson a go. After that we went 8 games unbeaten, conceded 7 goals, and Mee was doing pretty well.
Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
In a back 5 though, which we never play with. With Heaton coming in it would have solved the captaincy issue as well.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Maybe he's just not that good. He's 28 now, only ever had one season in the Prem and got relegated.
No issue with him though, we give loads of stick to players happy to sit on a bench or treatment table and pick up their wage, he's obviously not one of those. All's well that ends well anyway.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Its all water under the bridge now. For me the early turn off for Gibson would have been our 1-0 defeat at Spurs when we went 5 at the back and SD went for Long instead of him (Gibson was fit by this time). Then SD would alternate him and Long on the bench. It would have felt to me that I was not considered better than KL, who would never in his career have commanded a £15m fee.
The other puzzling thing for me was when Pullis (a supposed good friend of SD ) told SD that he had an exemplary attitude and they were getting a very solid team player

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
They'll do well with that Focker in charge. I do like him if not for just his name.
Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Remember seeing him against Sunderland in the League Cup and I think it would.be fair to say he was unconvincing. He also had opportunities in the Europa League and some exposure in the Premier League and to say he failed to impress I think would be being kind.
I'm sure theres a good player in there but he didnt show it here at all, and he was up against some very, very strong competition. You have to take your chance when its given and he just didn't. At all.

Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Agree with Woodleyclaret, time to move on now, Gibson has gone, and we need to get behind the players who actually want to play for Burnley.
Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
Don't want to post too much as it's only a rumour I've heard and I don't want to get the thread pulled. I heard there was an incident in training, involving another player. Possibly Lowton. Again it may not be true, just something I heard.

It’s like we just can’t get over himWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 9:56 pmPlease let this be the last thread on Burnley flop Gibson
Just one that didn’t work out. All clubs have them. Nobody’s fault. He just talks about not enjoying his time here, nothing particularly disparaging, which is fine. I’ve taken plenty of jobs I’ve not enjoyed.
On Norwich, I like them. They’re a nice club, nice people, well run. I like Farke too. And it’s a nice away game if you can stand the 84 hour drive.
So I want them to stay up, but sadly I think they’re weaker than last year without Buendia & Skipp. I’m not sure an 18 yo Gilmour is enough to make up for their losses. There is still time to strengthen yet, and they have the cash, but as things stand I think they’ll struggle again.
Re: Ben Gibson/Norwich
I would agree, I seem to recall one game which we were chasing, and who did we put on up front as a last ditch attempt to claw our way back into the game? Kevin Long, leaving Vydra on the bench!!!box_of_frogs wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 1:54 pmVery similar to the Vydra issue. I got a similar vibe 're Gibson. The lad remained on the bench no matter what was happening on the pitch. We only have a small squad and they all need to be used in order to freshen things up and take the pressure off the 'first eleven '.
