Both teams have a number of unfamiliar names on view, obviously a direct result of this Hundred nonsense. A lot of onus on Jones & Croft now, as there's not a lot of batting after them.

Tough ask for Lancs now, a chance for Lavelle to show his wears anyway.
Buttler, Davies & Mahmood missing amongst many others, so it was always going to be a stretch for Lancs to pull off a win today.

Re: Lancashire v Sussex
Lancs are missing 9 aren't they?
Buttler, Livingstone, Mahmood, Parkinson, Davies, Hartley, Wood, Gleeson... and whoever the overseas was due to be.
Makes the competition pretty pointless..... it's the equivalent of the U23 league, but packaged up as first team comp.

Great place to watch a game, but it's a bit like us all going down to Barnfield to watch the reserves.
Would add, it's good see a lot more spinners in England these days, after they went almost extinct at one point.

Re: Lancashire v Sussex
The England test players will be missing from the hundred shortly so that devalues the comp as well. Along with a lack of Aussie, Indians and South Africans it's hardly an all bells and whistles tournament.

Here at Sedbergh it looks like one of these teams has a good idea at what it's doing and the other is Lancashire. From behind the keeper it looked like Rob Jones got an absolute shocker and that's the only straw I can clutch at other than the weather.

Re: Lancashire v Sussex
50 partnership between Lumb & Bailey, sadly too little too late for Lancs hopes.
At least they've added some respectably to the scoreboard, but we've been comprehensively outplayed again, and well it's true that both teams are well under strength Lancs form has been poor for a while now, apart from those 3 late victories in the T20, but that looks like a false dawn, and it could be a long end to the season unless we get our regulars back sooner rather than later.

Another hot take..... won the division in the 4 day game, qualified in the T20 blast. Vastly weakened team outplayed today by the looks of it, in a mickey mouse competition now.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 5:24 pm50 partnership between Lumb & Bailey, sadly too little too late for Lancs hopes.

We've got a chance in the blast if we can get our full strength side out, but that's a big if as it stands.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 5:27 pmAnother hot take..... won the division in the 4 day game, qualified in the T20 blast. I'll be surprised if Lancs can challenge for the CC, teams such as Somerset have so much more strength in depth than we currently possess unfortunately.
I never said we'd had a poor season, however after a promising beginning results have tailed off in the last month or so, admittedly not helped by the weather, and Yorkshire being unable to prepare a decent outfield.
In the longer term Lancashire will need to somehow replace Buttler, Davies (obs) Livingstone & Mahmood, one is leaving, if he hasn't already, and the other 3 will be on England duty more often than not, so let's hope we can either recruit, which seems unlikely if finances are as bad as recent events suggest, or we have a few gems waiting in the wings to be promoted from the 2nd XI.
Regarding today whether we pull off an unlikely run chase or not I agree, it's similar to the early rounds of the FA Cup when teams field shadow sides to rest players for other comps.

In the month of July for lancashire
Beat Yorkshire (Blast)
Beat Durham (Blast)
Scored 411-2 Championship vs Yorks
Beat Northants - Blast
Drew with Kent having bowled them out for 74, and had them 149-8 - still 32 runs behind Lancs 1st innings score
Beat Worcester in the blast.
Bar the weather, it was going to be a 100% month..... results just haven't tailed off at all. They had a spell of 3 poor performances together in the blast in mid June - that's about it for the whole season.

I enjoyed watching that.
Obviously Lancashire winning from an impossible position helped, but I also enjoyed watching the young Sussex players. Their outfielding was superb.
Just great batting at the end.

Apologies I hadn't realised Lancs had enjoyed such a good July, we did have a brief stutter in June when it looked like we were going to struggle to qualify in the blast, but we pulled it out of the fire in the last few crucial games.
So it could yet be an exciting end to the season, in the last 6 of the revamped CC, though to the next stage of the blast, and somehow pulling victory from the jaws of defeat today, when all seemed lost.
A huge hand to Danny Lamb especially, who with solid support from Bailey and Hurt saw us home to a famous win.

Re: Lancashire v Sussex
Bailey's been a key member of Lancs CC and limited overs squads for almost a decade now, and sometimes he can go under the radar, I think his chances of an England call up are now slim at his age, but in domestic cricket he's a huge asset to possess for any county, thankfully he's a local lad born and bred, so that should ensure he finishes his career with the Red Rose.
Hurt I don't know much about. but his figures have been pretty decent this season.
And both those lads are from Preston, so it just goes to show the talent is on Lancs doorstep if they want to search for it.
Re: Lancashire v Sussex
Absolutely. Look at Lancs squad, most of them are born in the boundaries of the county Palatine.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 9:02 pmBailey's been a key member of Lancs CC and limited overs squads for almost a decade now, and sometimes he can go under the radar, I think his chances of an England call up are now slim at his age, but in domestic cricket he's a huge asset to possess for any county, thankfully he's a local lad born and bred, so that should ensure he finishes his career with the Red Rose.

The one that excites me the most is Saqib. He is the real deal. I genuinely think he can be a replacement for Broad in the test team.

Do the counties have any choice in the matter?, it seems players are going to teams on an ad-hoc basis.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 10:41 amI'm not sure Lancs letting their overseas player go is a wise move.
This Hundred format is ruining the game as a spectacle, and I don't see how it benefits the counties in any way whatsoever.
