Joey Barton
I'm posting this with a request that people show caution before posting without knowing facts.
But the situation is that he will appear in court tomorrow in Wimbledon charged with assault by beating. The alleged offence took place on 2nd June when the woman suffered a head injury. It's believed to be his wife.

Re: Joey Barton
Must've lived in South Yorkshie sometime, where they "gi the wife a crrrack".
Re: Joey Barton
I hope to God this is not what it seems because something that always stood out for me in his interviews was his devotion and gratitude to his wife and children.

I'll be comparing the comments on this thread to the comments made on the Ashley Barnes thread. Both made pre-court appearance.

Just goes to show you never know for sure what happens behind closed doors, well at least until something like this happens.

Terrible.
Shame as I’d have loved to seen him back here in some capacity.

Was the police investigation into the incident involving Barton and the opposition manager at Barnsley ever concluded

Re: Joey Barton
If it is true he is finished in football.
Re: Joey Barton
If he’s found guilty then I’d say he’s finished in football. He was brilliant for us and a big reason we were 23 undefeated. It’s a shame he can’t seem to stay out of trouble.
Re: Joey Barton
Appears to be very troubled outside of football. I hate wife beaters. Despite never wanting to sign him I’d like to remember what he did on the pitch for us. As soon as he made his debut you could tell he was going to be really good for us. Did a lot of dirty work on the pitch and took the opposition abuse well.

I hope his wife and children are ok. No further comment.
Re: Joey Barton
Best to wait for the details to emerge. But whatever has happened it seems bizarre to be drawing comparisons to Ashley Barnes

I follow his wife on Instagram, she has put out a statement to say he has never been violent or physical towards her and the rumours are untrue.

Yes, that would be more comparable to comparing Barnes to whatever this incident ends up being about.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 12:12 pmYes, if it was drink driving or conning officials that’d be more acceptable.

The fact the police want to continue to press charges when the alleged victim is denying it is a little worrying especially as a lot of victims of domestic violence will deny it and will defend their abuserBurnleybabe wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 12:10 pmI follow his wife on Instagram, she has put out a statement to say he has never been violent or physical towards her and the rumours are untrue.

In your opinion.
The way I view it....until a plea is entered, I still believe it should be a bedrock of our justice system that you are "innocent until proven guilty".
Worryingly, that attitude seems to be changing. It's going to be difficult in this country to get a fair trial. Everyone seems to decide on social media if you are guilty or not. We won't need courts soon.

Re: Joey Barton
Wow.
I wasn't comparing the case involving Barnes to this case. We really should read what is written and not comment upon what you think you have read.
I said it will be interesting to compare our comments on these 2 cases....as they are both pre- court case. That's all.

Re: Joey Barton
We are very blessed that so many Burnley fans so clearly know so much about everything that they feel they are in possession to gossip about a court case that hasn’t happened yet about a player who no one has seen in years…
The intelligence department have had a rough time lately, maybe a recruitment drive at Turf Moor would help.

It's incredible how some people find someone instantly guilty without knowing any detail whatsoever.

Re: Joey Barton
Trouble does follow Joey around. However, it demonstrates what a superb man manager Dyche is that they weren’t any major incidents involving Joey during his tenure, in fact he was utterly superb for us.
Furthermore, there is a premise of “Innocent until proven guilty.” Joey will be going into a court case at a disadvantage with the media no doubt willing to play judge, jury and executioner.

Surely with a user name like that you are somewhat familiar with the judicial process, and hopefully things have improved since your day.John Johnson 1605 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 1:29 pmTrouble does follow Joey around. No major incidents other than him getting an 18 month ban from playing football, which is fairly major.John Johnson 1605 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 1:29 pmTrouble does follow Joey around. Re: Joey Barton
I was referring to violent behaviour on and off the pitch.
In addition the vast majority of bets placed by Barton were placed prior to him being an employee of the football club, stretching back to 2006.
I personally think his ban was also draconian.

Re: Joey Barton
He’s also waiting to appear again on the incident with the ex Barnsley Manager. I think from memory at the last hearing it was adjourned on technical and translation issues, problems with the video link. The Court want the ex Barnsley Manager to appear in person at the next hearing with a new date to be set.

Let’s hope nobody on here is on the jury. Even Burnley fans have him guilty until proven innocent.
Despite his misspent youth he’s always struck me as a good character that’s learnt from his mistakes but still carries his reputation around.

Re: Joey Barton
His behaviour on the pitch was generally good. But the idea that his behaviour was good whilst a Burnley player isn’t true. Because he was breaking FA betting rules whilst a Burnley player and as a result got an 18 month ban. I’m not going to let his on field performances for us cloud my judgement of him as a person, because he’s obviously not a very good one. Regardless of whether or not these particular charges come to anything.John Johnson 1605 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 1:50 pmI was referring to violent behaviour on and off the pitch.

I don’t know the facts I know just as much as anybody else on here. I can’t be 100% sure if he clouted her or not & her defending him doesn’t really sway, it’s a common behavioural shift for the victim to reflect & reconsider especially if the relationship could be compromised.tarkys_ears wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 1:51 pmYeah, could well be the "I could throw some charges at a celeb and make myself famous" threshold....
Re: Joey Barton
Also her future income is at stake. If Joey isn’t in football he isn’t earning. And that will impact her. Even if the marriage is over she will want him employable.
