He's not the only one and won't be the last.

Similar to when players who looked very good under Brian Clough moved on and didn't do well - Gary Birtles for one example.

Our manager gets more from our players than most other managers could.

He served his apprenticeship with Clough so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised.

Vokes was a terrific servant to Burnley, but the writing was on the wall during his last few months with us, and clearly in hindsight it was the right time to sell him, and we got £7m from Stoke, which wasn't exactly small change.

Hope he has a good swansong at Wycombe to round off his career, at League 1 level he should fancy himself to bag plenty if he can stay fit.

There's only a handful of players who've left Burnley and enjoyed success, which suggests we get it right more often than not when a player is slipping in their standards, and SD and the board act accordingly and ensure we get decent money for them.

Don’t agree with him not being the same player after the injury. That injury was in April 2014 but I think his best season for us was possibly 2016/17.

Adebayo Akinfenwa is still at Wycombe.

Who fancies being a defender against him and Sam?

He scored 10 goals in 16/17, as opposed to 20 in 13/14, albeit Premier league /championship, different league but number of goals is a fair comparison, but his efforts trying to get back to his pre-injury level in 2016/17 took a massive hit on he's body, so to make a point had he not have had the injury I believe he would have gone on in subsequent seasons to hit the same levels but his injury meant he couldn't, going in to 16/17 he was carrying excess weight which took some time to get off and I'm not sure he ever shedded it, so in my opinion held him back somewhat and he's consequently ended up at the level he's now at, considering he's age still only being 31 if I'm not mistaken.

Don't agree with that at all. In my view he fully recovered from the cruciate in 20132/14. I'm not sure, had he not fully recovered, that he'd have been able to play as much and as well as he did at a higher level. And, make no mistake, had he not fully recovered and had he not been fully fit, he wouldn't have got any games in this Burnley team.

I think he lost a lot of mobility after the injury. Compare 13/14 to 15/16 and the goals he scored were very different

Yes his pairing with Danny is certainly the greatest Burnley striking duo in my lifetime, and they were a joy to watch in the 13/14 promotion campaign,

If Sam stays fit it wouldn't surprise me to see him topping the League 1 scoring charts next season, and Wycombe should have every chance of a quick return to the Championship following their unfortunate relegation.

Not sure why we're debating to such a degree, we all agree Sam was a legend for us and probably he's best season was his partnership with Danny ings, but as kefka has also suggested he lost some mobility post injury, but anyway hope he plays on a few years longer and hits some dizzy heights with Wycombe, good luck Sam lad.

There’s a thread currently about Edgar. Cort was a far better player than him.

Laws was manager when he signed but I understand it wasn't the manager's choice to sign him.

Sam was given the short straw at Stoke and he suffered for it. He was the wrong type of striker for the way they wanted to set up and play. Putting him up front on his own was never going to work out well for him.

I'm not sure how he will do at Wycombe. Looking at their last season they started out playing 4-4-2, flirting with a few 1 up front and five in midfield formations, tried 4-3-3 a number of times, then they finished off with a run of playing 3-5-2.

I think a team should have a couple of different formations in their locker that they are comfortable with, but when I see a manager employing so many different set ups in a season it always makes me nervous.

Sam deserves a good ending to his career, hopefully everything will work out for him.

he's signed a 1Yr deal with Wycombe, so must be have sorted the year left.
