Exercise bike recommendations

During COVID and the various lockdowns I have piled on a few pounds unfortunately and with a busy schedule of work and family life I was looking into the possibility of an exercise bike at home.

I hope there will be some recommendations from the fountain of knowledge Up The Clarets! I have a budget of around £500 if anyone can point me in the right direction?

I use this one along with the Peloton app on Sky/Firestick.

Not the cheapest but very well made and customer service was great. Best balance between paying crazy money and buying something cheap that would fall apart quickly.

I would look into hiring one if you haven't had one at home before.
Can be expensive mistakes if you use them twice.

If you use it everyday for a month then buy one.

Bought a Reebok Jet for £200 from Argos, it's right enough.

So will he after a week or 2. Find a cheaper, more interesting way to burn some calories.. the vast majority of home fitness kit doesn’t survive 2 weeks

Don't rush out and spend £000s.
I got mine for £50 off gumtree.
Used it like mad for a couple of months and then gradually used it less and less.
Haven't been on it for about 6 months. Now taking up space in 4th unused bedroom.
Will flog it around Christmas/New Year for prob double my money.
They get very boring once the initial enthusiasm has worn off.

For £500 you could get a years subscription at Crowood and pedal to your hearts content whilst eyeing up all the candy. 😍

This was me, although I've had a few years use out of mine. I moved house and can get my real bike out easily, so prefer to get out on that.

If you want this as a taster, Claretburns, you can have it fairly cheap.

I bought an exercise bike a few years ago and it quickly started gathering dust after a few weeks when the novelty wore off. However, I bought a mountain bike last year and haven't looked back. Great fun going out and about on that exploring different trails. A lot less boring too!

I would echo the sentiments of others in refraining from going all out and subscribing to something like Peloton to begin with.

Buy a cheap exercise bike, or just a bike, and see how you get on.

If you’ve still got the bug in 6 months/1 year then perhaps upgrade.

I had a cheap exercise bike for two years which I used pretty much everyday and it was fine. It doesn’t need to be anything expensive or fancy, especially if it ties you down financially like Peloton.

Day 1....Out of the box full of excitement
Day 2...Half an hour's workout
Day 3... Nothing
Day 4 ...Bike finds a new home in the attic
Go out for a walk mate you will get so much more exercise and the fresh air will do you good, I wonder how many exercise bikes are lying idle in garages & attics in the UK....I bet it runs into the thousands.

An exercise bike is one of the dullest forms of home exercise, and I should know, I've had one. Even setting it up, so I could see my PC monitor, I was learning Spanish via YouTube at the time, didn't alleviate the sheer boredom.

A couple of months later, the bike ended up being stripped down and was placed in the spare room, and later given away. Get a proper bike, or if you're not keen on that, invest in some decent walking gear. We have some awesome countryside on our doorstep.
