English football authorities release heading guidance for training for all levels from 2021/22, recommending "maximum of 10 higher force headers in any training week". "Higher force" means "headers following a long pass (more than 35m) or from crosses, corners and free-kicks".

Who’s going to be counting?

I guess it gets the football authorities out of any legal action going forward.

Junior level football barely has any heading in it these days. With so many coaches in grass roots they are taught everything along the floor.

But now guidance is out players can look after themselves and refuse to do it.

They can, might be a quick route to the bench though!

Does it include any guidance around tackling with you head?

As usual with something like this it’s a question of balance.

Some will adhere to this guidance and some won’t.

Quick route to a court case for the club if they actively discriminate against a player who's following new rules.

It’s guidance rather than rules (or at least that’s what it seems from the single tweet we have about this).

Either way it wouldn't be a good look for a club if they benched a player who was placing their future well being ahead of heading a football an excessive number of times in training.

At least seven of Burnley's championship winning side have suffered from Alzheimer's and related conditions so I think this guidance has not come soon enough.https://news.sky.com/story/burnley-fc-p ... e-12131984

As a midfielder in the mold of Brian Flynn, I support banning heading completely... at least in the games I'm playing in.

I certainly wouldn't be queuing up to head a 1950s football.

Who is going to police this? How are they going to do it?

Heading inspectors at every training session?

It's nothing new though is it.

Gary Lineker refused to head balls in training.

Chris Wood doesn't challenge for headers unless he can score from them.

Nothing new in terms of training.
We regularly trained "under head height", then on game day our centre halfs would get bombarded with high balls from all angles!

Bit of a difference in the type of balls used 60 years ago and those used today…

Agreed but the modern ball is now moving a lot faster.... Force = Mass x Velocity etc etc

Occasionally we play with premier league balls in our 6aside league, I hate how light they are

As a keeper I agree. They dip and rise unexpectedly.
