Start of the 6th season with previous seasons including 1 x 7th and 2 x 10th place finishes :D

There will be idiots who agree with the article no doubt

"Fans of clubs like Wigan Athletic, Portsmouth and Birmingham City, who experienced silverware before dropping out of the top-flight and entering rough financial waters, will tell you that one day of ecstasy means a lot more than constant mediocrity in the Premier League."

I disagree.

Only got to the patently incorrect sub-headline and stopped reading. If qualifying for Europe is making up the numbers then it applies to all but 3 or 4 teams.

I think you're right; I know supporters of all three clubs - yes a limited poll I accept - but they would all happily trade places with us, even at the cost of their cup win.

I was also amused by the fact that in their list of Burnley's final league positions the 2018 result was displayed as 'seventh' rather than '7th' in keeping with all the others; was that to perhaps play down the one result which particularly didn't fit their story-line; surely not?

I find the claim 'making up numbers' quite funny when there are 72 other clubs who would be desperate to swap places. Making up numbers indicates that we are there because the league is desperate to fill places.

Some real support you are showing.

Maybe you are a follower rather than a fan?

All the Premier league clubs make the numbers up,it is why the European super league was totally rejected and despised, clubs are desperate to get into this league and pit themselves against the richest clubs and some of the best players in the world, pathetic lazy journalism.

It's the usual assumption that if we spent money like Brighton we would be as good as Brighton. With of course the usual forgetting that we have been better than Brighton almost every year.

That's it. Nothing fresh, no insight; written for the sake of having to churn something out- pretty much off the top of the writer' head.

I don't understand this idea that Burnley should just wave a magic wand and become a team worthy of winning things. I don't know what people want us to do? Whats wrong with mediocrity when we punching way above your weight financially. We've never had billionaire owners, we have localised fan base and old fashioned stadium.

It's the equivalent of someone like me moving to LA, buying a big house and a flash car, eating in expensive restaurants with Hollywood stars and then reminiscing about it all when I have nothing left.

Credit to ALK so far, we might not have seen much on the field, but I can see progress in revenue generating aspects off the field. Though I can't see much hope for us this season though if you don't invest in the first team.

Nothing disrespectful in that article. He’s saying what many are saying on the Summer Transfer thread. Agree with him or not it’s his opinion.

Spot on I'm not a fan I'm only a follower, wow you got all that from me not agreeing with you, it's not like I spend 2k a year on season tickets, or spend on average another 2k a season following Burnley away, or making massive sacrifices like losing my job (when I was single) many many years ago going to an away game or catching five different flights to get to the Olympiakos game and back, I wished I followed a cheaper team

He’s right, we need to spend £100m or so this window to be as good as Brighton, a team who do far more than make up the numbers year in and year out.

Oh wait, they finish beneath us nearly every single season!

Some clubs, and we’re one of them for some reason I do not understand, are simply ‘unliked’. There is nothing the club can do to stop the constant whinging of ‘pundits’ about our style of football, transfer policy, lack of non-British/White players and so on and so forth. The die has been cast long ago by the media and society’s perception of Burnley Football Club, nothing will change it and frankly I couldn’t care less anymore. Accept it and bask in its triviality.

I've been a fan all my life, sponsored the match ball, sponsored games also player's kits, named or part named my children linked to the Clarets, gone to Torquay on a midweek game and sneaked in when away fan's were banned, never missed an home or away game for 9 season's in a row just to just a few can you say the same, I think after being a fan for almost 50 years I'm aloud an opinion even it doesn't match yours

Looking forward to the ones on Crystal Palace who have been there a few years longer and West Ham who finally turned things around a bit last season after 9 years in the top flight, being in London and having a ground they use for a pittance (at public expense) and are now allowed crowds of over 60k

Utter garbage.

Two top ten finishes in 5 years is certainly not mediocrity.

And completely fails to mention any of the off field improvements, such as the community aspect and academy.

It's not utter garbage, but rather pointless.
As for making up the numbers ( whether we are "content" to do this is a bit of an assumption) it's us and about 10 others isn't it?

As said above, a lazy attempt by another Soppy B0ll0cks who knows sod all about us or the game itself.

I'd sooner read an article on how much other teams have spent - the likes of Leeds, Wolves, Brighton etc., and do a points per spend comparison with us to see who is really making up th numbers
