Carabao Cup games this weekend
Bournemouth v MK Dons on Saturday.
Sheff Weds v Huddersfield on Sunday.
Then the rest of the first round fixtures aren't untill the 10th & 11th August
Anybody know why these two games are being played this weekend seems a strange one ?

I can't remember all the details, but as I recall clubs were given the option to bring the matches forward if both agreed.PadihamThickNeck wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 7:01 pmBournemouth v MK Dons on Saturday.

Which I presume must have happened in both these cases.

I genuinely think I have turned into a Premier league snob, once of a day I knew when competitions started, who was in them etc, now if it doesn't involve the Premier league I have no interest apart from non league.

It happened a few years ago, I think we played Port Vale a week before the season started at home to Bournemouth, all clubs were given the option of playing their ties this weekend if both clubs agreed.
Suppose for home clubs a chance of a bigger gate playing on a weekend afternoon than a midweek evening.

The game you refer to against Port Vale was in 2012. The whole first round of the League Cup was played before the league season kicked off that year because of the Olympics.claretburns wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 10:44 pmIt happened a few years ago, I think we played Port Vale a week before the season started at home to Bournemouth, all clubs were given the option of playing their ties this weekend if both clubs agreed.

The ties this year were due to be played 11th or 12th August but clubs were given the option of bringing them forward.

You sure it's that? I've just only be interested in the competitions we've been in. Couldn't care less about the premier league before we were in it and didn't care for league one when we were in the championship.
Now, remarkably I couldn't care less about the championship either beyond wanting Blackburn relegated and some easy opponents coming up.

You might as well stop caring about the FA Cup & Carabao Cup too like Dyche.superdimitri wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 2:29 amYou sure it's that? Did Dyche refuse you an autograph at some time in the past ? You seem very upset with himdjemba-djemba wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 8:52 amYou might as well stop caring about the FA Cup & Carabao Cup too like Dyche.

Problem is when you play in the cup lower in the leagues the draw is greater due to finances and the potential to earn some money and beat better opposition.djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 8:52 amYou might as well stop caring about the FA Cup & Carabao Cup too like Dyche.
In the premier league the money is just so crazy and out competitors all have tremendous advantages over us due to spending power even the biggest cup fan can see why it's done even if they don't agree with it themselves.
With a bigger squad I think we could do a lot better in the cup.

Re: Carabao Cup games this weekend
Makes sense to use it as a slightly more intense friendly. Surprised more teams haven't taken the option, frankly

With it being lower league clubs only, most will want to progress to getting a big tie and some money in.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 9:05 amMakes sense to use it as a slightly more intense friendly. Surprised more teams haven't taken the option, frankly

Yes he did, but I don’t feel as bad about it now that it’s obvious the guy is reluctant to sign anything...claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 8:58 amDid Dyche refuse you an autograph at some time in the past ? You seem very upset with him

Re: Carabao Cup games this weekend
That was a couple of years later when we drew them again in the first round. That would have been Vossen and we did lose. The one in 2012 ended in a comfortable win.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 1:36 pmDidnt a Begian players play v Vale

Re: Carabao Cup games this weekend
Vossen did play and was replaced by Marvin Sordell midway through the second half. The treatment Sordell received from the Burnley fans was nothing but a disgrace.
You are right, it came three years after the one mentioned previously and was three days after the opening game of the season at Leeds. We lost 1-0 but in the previous one had won 3-1 with goals from Chris McCann, Charlie Austin and Dean Marney which was played four days before the opening league game against Bolton.
