What a League when only 4 / 20 can win it
What a League when only 4 / 20 can win it
The Premier League betting says it all really
City 8/13
Liverpool 5/1
Chelsea 5/1
Man Utd 8/1
And 50/1 bar !!!! so 2 clubs (Arsenal and Spurs) that were being considered for the so called Super League are 50/1 to win their own league !!!!!
Take away the top 4 and the whole league top to bottom becomes ultra competitive.

Straight contest between City and Chelsea
Liverpool will not get near them maybe top 6 ditto Man U.
Teams imo who will struggle are Brentford.Villa without Grealish,Saints ,Norwich , Palace and Brighton

Think you'll find only 1/20 can win it. City will do it again, no worries.

How many could win it the year that Leicester won it?

Mmmm…. If things stay as they are, there’s one missing from that lot in your second paragraph.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 2:42 pmStraight contest between City and Chelsea

Current outright betting on the Scottish Premiership
Rangers 4/9
Celtic 21/5 (and drifting)
Aberdeen 89/1
Hibernian 150/1
What a League where there is only 1 Likely Winner

Where do you think Rangers and Celtic would finish in the championship ??kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 3:15 pmCurrent outright betting on the Scottish Premiership

I didn’t realise it was the bookies who chose the winners. Spoilers

If you'd have asked me to predict 2 certs for an Olympic gold, I'd have said Biles & Djokovic, and neither even won a medal sadly for them, so it shows that sometimes the favourites don't always come in.

Re: What a League when only 4 / 20 can win it
Probably only 2 teams can win the Bundesliga
3 teams can win La LIga
1 team usually walks Ligue 1
Most of the top leagues are the same. One of the reasons I watch more lower/non league footy nowadays instead of the top leagues

Usually yes but both Leicester and Lille have shown that the trend can be bucked in recent years, and that can only be good for the game.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 3:53 pmProbably only 2 teams can win the Bundesliga

However I do agree in the last couple of decades this is becoming harder to achieve, whereas in the 60s/70's it wasn't exactly uncommon for teams to go all the way from the 2nd division, and win the title, Derby and Ipswich are obvious examples, but now the gulf is just getting bigger, and unless you can attract a rich owner, it's almost impossible to compete on an equal footing unfortunately.

Well maybe Leicester might win it?
Stranger things have happened. I think if Kane and Grealish both go to city with Laporte back, stones and Dias , they will be unbeatable!

Re: What a League when only 4 / 20 can win it
In the 29 years of the Premier League it has been won on 26 occasions by one of the following clubs
Manchester United 13
Manchester City 5
Chelsea 5
Arsenal 3
Three clubs in that period have won the league just once
Blackburn
Leicester
Liverpool
Of course, not all of the winners were the bookies outright favourites at the start of the season. Last season Liverpool were the clear favourites but failed to back up their title win of the previous season. No surprise really then that Leicester were offered at huge odds at the start of their title winning season. The bookies don't always get it right but far more often than not it has been 1 of the Big 4 that lifted the title.

What is your point tho?
Odds don't determine who wins, if they did we'd all be billionaires from horse racing. I'm not sure why you're even mentioning odds tbh, did you forget Leicester were 1000/1 or something stupid????
Also what is wrong with 4 teams potentially winning the title? the other major leagues don't have 4.

Interesting, I wonder out of Man Utd's 13 wins how many of those was they favourites to win the league ??kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 5:50 pmIn the 29 years of the Premier League it has been won on 26 occasions by one of the following clubs

Everyone I would imagine ??
Re: What a League when only 4 / 20 can win it
The big 6 thing is slowly turning, Arsenal are declining, Leicester have been on the rise. Everton/Villa have built very very good sides. West Ham had a very good season last year but will probably revert back to mid table. Leeds with Bielsa and forward thinking ambitious owners are capable of building.
This league has never been more competitive for the top 4 places, it's unlikely a team will go and win the title without sustained top 4 finishes and gradually progressing and building. Step by step

5000/1 at the outset, and yes compared to many major leagues the PL is relatively open.KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 6:01 pmWhat is your point tho?

Taking your argument that the PL has never been more competitive for the top 4 places these are the current odds being offered by bookmakers for any of the teams you have mentioned to finish in the Top 4 positions.
Leeds 12/1
West Ham 16/1
Everton 19/1
Aston Villa 20/1
Re: What a League when only 4 / 20 can win it
What is your point? I mentioned dark horse teams with an outside chance of building over the years and challenging potentially. I didn't even mention the rest City, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Leicester, United. Btw finishing in the top 4 is different to challenging to finish in the top 4, West Ham challenged last year but didn't quite make it, it was a real competition and battle for the spots.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 7:13 pmTaking your argument that the PL has never been more competitive for the top 4 places these are the current odds being offered by bookmakers for any of the teams you have mentioned to finish in the Top 4 positions.
