Parts of Turf Moor will no longer be accepting cash
Catering and hospitality across Turf Moor has transitioned to a cashless operation.
We will only accept credit or debit card and contactless payments across parts of the stadium - this covers kiosks and bars in our concourses, hospitality suites and function rooms.
You will be able to make payment using the following methods:
most major credit and debit cards (unfortunately we do not accept American Express)
mobile payments
gift vouchers.
Please note: we will still be accepting cash in the Clarets Store and at the ticket office.

Excellent news we can use gift vouchers for a half time pint

Would be good if they can operate a system where you can hold credit on your season ticket card, with kiosks outside the ground where you can top up your card, and an option to credit it online.
They could even offer 10% bonus credit as an introductory offer

If you're buying a Twix there won't be any change

Good.
When I went to Old Trafford for Carrick's testimonial, only one part was accepting card and that was very annoying because it was clear not many were carrying cash even then.

I bet they do at Brighton.
I once worked for an American company and they wouldn't pay expenses if you hadn't used American Express.

Pretty standard. Does make it hard work over here when trying to book a jolly

Many places prefer cash nevermind "normal visa/mastercard"

Great news. Should speed up service no end which might make the task of ordering and drinking a half time beverage within the allotted interval a possibility. Next good move would be to get rid of the optics as it takes about 8 minutes to make a Bene and hot.

I’ve heard they’re doing cocktails this season. You’ll be waiting the full half time because someone is trying to impress their girlfriend/boyfriend.

You can really see the direction the new owners are taking us in, hopefully they introduce some booth seating into the concourses so we have a little space to enjoy our halftime Manhattans.

You wouldn’t think so would you. Try getting a beer before the second half kicks off when the person in front of you places an order for 4 Bene and hots.

Great with a chili dog ( I’ve heard there’s no pies this season either.)

Tried to get a programme at Tottenham away last season but wasn't able to as the card machine had broken and the guy in the booth couldn't accept cash! That was annoying.

Switching from cash to card payments won't make much difference for this. For what you're suggesting they want loyalty cards, paying with season ticket cards, etc.

I’ve got to admit, I was somebody that always needed to have some cash on me, but over the last year I’ve got use to just using my card/phone to pay
I do think though that it’s going to be restricting for some.
There will be kids that go to the kiosk by themselves without a card. I myself take my godson and even though I go down to the kiosk with him, he usually pays for his own with cash

They will, because a couple of hours in a football ground is a long time with no food or drink, especially in the winter.

Programmes are going digital so you'll be able to get them on your phone or download them later onto your tablet/laptop/PC/Sega Mega Drive

The move towards cashless transactions throughout the club could have also be about encouraging spending. If you dig into your wallet or purse to pull out some cash your spending stops when there is no more cash in it.
More importantly every transaction involves the physical passing of a fixed sum of money. This allows a person to easily monitor their spending and every transaction stimulates a mental jolt ( I just spent x ) that has a cumulative effect.
In contrast, paying with a card or a mobile phone, doesn't have the same physical impact as paying with cash. When the spending of a person becomes more intangible they are less likely to register how much they are spending or have spent until their bank statement pops through their letter box months later or their card is rejected.
Cashless payment systems diminish the feedback loop that arises from spending and consequentially they make it more likely that people will spend beyond their means. I suspect that this development is partly related to the " increase the secondary spend " mantra that is permeating the club.

Given we have just had a pandemic that is spread by contact, anyone sensible has to welcome schemes such as this that would reduce the amount of physical contact. Nice contactless transactions, no faffing around. Lovely job

Hardly surprising that so many retailers refuse American Express. They charge retailers a lot more than Visa or Mastercard.
