Should We Be Worried By Pope's Continued Absence
Is anyone else getting concerned at Nicks lengthy absence for what at the time was described as a routine operation. I think at the time when first announced it was felt he was in with a chance of the Euros.Has anyone got any update on Nicks progress

Yes, we probably should be worried, especially as Sean thought it was necessary to bring in a more experienced back up than BPF.
Let's hope we see Pope against Cadiz, or it might be fingernails time.

I want him 100% fit when he starts not rushed in.

If Hennessy was brought in to be number one for a long time we wouldn’t have loaned out the lad to Sheff Wed.

Re: Should We Be Worried By Pope's Continued Absence
Absolutely! we should, WH is a decent enough number 2, and should definitely be an upgrade on BPF or Norris, but Nick Pope provides reassurance when he's between the sticks, and the whole defence just looks more solid with him barking instructions out, and commanding his area.
The really worrying aspect is how little news there's been on Pope's progress, you'd have thought by now there would have been some form of update by the club.
They usually say no news is good news, but in this instance I'm not sure I agree.

I’m worried. If there’s no sight of him in this weeks friendly or Cadiz I’ll be bricking it.

Brighton is a 6 pointer already so we could do with Pope in goals

Agreed-its the absence of information thats worrying.SD likes doing his precis of injuries in conferences ie "hes training on grass", or "we are pleased the way the operation went" or "hes coming along nicely". However its been deadly quiet with this one.Maybe I am being paranoid on this but recall how long Barnes hernia operation too to resolve itselftiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:19 pmAbsolutely! we should, WH is a decent enough number 2, and should definitely be an upgrade on BPF or Norris, but Nick Pope provides reassurance when he's between the sticks, and the whole defence just looks more solid with him barking instructions out, and commanding his area.

Ruled out of the Euros immediately after they knew he needed surgery. Don’t think he’s far away.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 7:49 pmIs anyone else getting concerned at Nicks lengthy absence for what at the time was described as a routine operation. Hmm! so if Hennessey plays, who's on the bench Norris? that's a worry in itself.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:09 pmGot to think that Hennessy is going to play v Brighton at least
Re: Should We Be Worried By Pope's Continued Absence
I seem to remember his not putting in an appearance until the final preseason friendly last summer. I wouldn't be too concerned.

As usual we, the fans, are left guessing. Years of pre-season guessing should have taught us one thing... what will be, will be.
Nick Pope will between the sticks in the coming season. Unfortunately, those sticks might not be ours

CT-well at least thats encouraging. If we are this family club that the owners want to develop (and we all care about the team), all it would have taken is someone at the club saying exactly that "we dont think Nick is too faraway". Just gives fans a little bit of assurance about one of the best keepers we have ever hadClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:39 pmRuled out of the Euros immediately after they knew he needed surgery. Re: Should We Be Worried By Pope's Continued Absence
I just hope we're being ultra cautious regarding Nick, and we don't want to bring him back before he's 100% ready.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:33 pmAgreed-its the absence of information thats worrying.SD likes doing his precis of injuries in conferences ie "hes training on grass", or "we are pleased the way the operation went" or "hes coming along nicely". The interesting aspect is should Hennessey start the first couple of league games, and being optimistic he keeps a couple of clean sheets, what then when Pope is fit, does he come straight back in or not, we know SD generally rewards guys who're performing, but it would be a big call to leave NP out if he's fit, mind you a nice problem to have should it arise.

Re: Should We Be Worried By Pope's Continued Absence
Why so many `bricking it`?
He's had an op, and is now recovering and getting fit to play football at the very highest level. It takes time, and we need to be patient. If he's not ready, then the extremely competent number 2 plays until he is.

it was only a week or so that news was about of him being offered a new contract. None of the big teams need a new number 1 keeper so he's staying I reckon

Along with 5 other clubs us and Brighton are in the leagues bottom tier and are going to be battling against relegation. Its therefore a 6 pointer and if we lose it then you've got to fear the worst for the rest of the season

This worried me a little. Probably paper talk but my heart definitely sank. ONLY REASON We’d be in the market for Rammers is if Pope was on his way out.
