Enjoyed that thanks.
Even if I still think it's ridiculous having him on the "wall of legends", he was a brilliant footballer no doubt.
More brilliant for Everton and Rangers like, but still brilliant.

Dear Trevor, I shall inform Adrian that you couldn't recall his name. He'll be hugely disappointed as he speaks highly of you as a person and he is proud of your stay with his family whilst at Burnley.

Wow, what a lovely guy Trevor is.Such a talented footballer and one of my hero's when he played for Burnley. He obviously has great affection for Burnley still.
Thanks for posting this, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Fantastic player and top bloke, his love for Burnley shines through, never wanted to play against us remembers the cats whiskers and thought Burnley was like a metropolis compared to Berwick

. Really liked his principled stand regarding singing Rangers sectarian songs, top bloke.

How is Adrian? Not seen him in years. His mum & dad are really good friends of mine.

Great watch, and one of my all time favourite players.
I'd forgotten the reasoning for going to Scotland.

A great listen Thanks.
When I saw young Trevor play, like many would have thought, it was obvious he would play for England.
Exceptional impact.

I first saw him play in a pre-season game at Gawthorpe as a 16-year-old and was blown away by him, so much so that the following day I told a work colleague, a Blackpool fan, that we had a young player who would play for England.
Approaching five years later he reminded me when he won his first cap and said at the time he thought it was just Burnley bias.

It wasn't though, was it. He literally shone and we had seen some talent.

Great interview. Not bombarded with questions but allowed Trevor Steven to talk. He was very much to the fore in the promotion of 81-82, a squad that contained a lot of young, skilful talent. Another player that just 'glided' across the ground and a sight to see when in full flow.

How interesting was that!
Alongside Leighton James , I rated TS as the best player to have played for Burnley. Such a talent.
During the interview he displayed such intelligence and good grace underlaid with ambition and self belief.
Trevor has a deep connection with Burnley that’s for sure.
Two things I picked out from the interview which our team could learn.
1. Keep the ball and don’t give it away.
2. Develop your technical skills and practice, practice , practice.

I don't see him much myself nowadays to be honest, not since he moved from Gannow to Brunshaw.
With the Bobbin still shut he is now calling in at the Ighten Mount on Friday's after work. I'll have to pop in some time and have a session with him.
I know you have been good friends with Adrian & his family for years and Adrian always speaks very highly of you.
I don't think he's even going on the turf anymore let alone going to away matches. As you'll know yourself, he never missed a match home or away for years.
I'll let him know you've been asking of him.

What a gent. I remember when he got quite badly injured at Huddersfield. Clear as day- where did all the time go? Must have been c 1982.

Great interview. As others have said, he just seems like a really sound bloke. Still has his Berwick accent, clearly proud of where he comes from, speaks very well of Burnley and just comes across as an intelligent fella. Would have made a good manager I think. Great memories of watching him in my early years supporting the Clarets. Him and Billy were my favourites.

We had some great players in the 81/82 side. Laws, Phelan, Overson, Trevor and big Billy up front.

Sadly didn't invest a penny in the squad after promotion and then spent most of the new season without a centre half with Vince injured. Micky Phelan and Martin Dobson in a back four wasn't going to work with Laws and Wharton at full back.

The interviewer Alex Frost, or should I say Father Alex, is a good man too. He used to referee with my dad in the 90s.

Your analysis is right Tony. Big Vince’s loss for most of the season was key. We were just too soft at the back and threw too many points away when we had had more than enough of the game to come away with something. Three games come to mind when we absolutely dominated went 1-0 up and then let in goals out of nothing: Derby (H), Carlisle (A), Grimsby (H)
Great interview with my all time favourite Claret. A Rolls Royce of a player. In entertainment terms I think we saw the best of him. He fitted superbly into the Everton system but we rarely saw his natural flair. I don’t think it was just that it was at a higher level, as he showed against Liverpool over two legs in the 83 Milk cup he could run games against the very best.

We played Dobson as a sweeper in 81/82 allowing Laws and Wharton to push further upfield and support the attack. From memory we had a mix of Eric Potts, Phil Cavener and less frequently Stuart Robertson as wide players in front of the full backs

That was when Vince was fit. The three you mentioned, Potts, Cavener and Robertson didn't feature that much in 1981/82. Potts started just 14 games, Cavener 6 and Robertson 5. Derek Scott played quite a bit on the right and Kevin Young was almost an ever present on the left.

As previously stated around that time we had some cracking players, if we could have got our best 11 from that period on the pitch at the same time there would have been a really strong division 2 team aiming for the first division.

Indeed! I'd rather take Trevor Steven's opinion over some of the posters on here.
What we'd give for a midfield maestro of Trevor's class now.

Will do. I bump into Gareth occasionally but last time I saw Adrian must be around 2008. Don’t see much of Jose & Bill now but they are very good friends. You’ve prompted me, I’ll phone them tomorrow. That’s how I got to know Trevor Steven.

Lovely people and it has been a hell of a long time. Great memories of grow up on Holcombe Drive. They will remember my parents Jacqui and Glyn.
