First gig

in ages. All being well, off to Holmfirth to the Picturedrome to see King King, ably
supported by Jim Kirkpatrick.

We've had so many either postponed or actually cancelled that it's been a nightmare.

My biggest disappointment was the cancellation of The Who gig. Probably not get another chance now.

Was due to see the Who which was carried over from last year. Was due to see what is left of the Eagles too but unfortunately I think that boat has sailed now as well. Probably Stirrin' slowly cross the sky.....

Was glad i saw ZZ Top couple of years ago supporting KISS, although they are carrying on with Dusty's personal choice of replacement, it wont be the same.

Have you been to the Picturedrome before?
It's a brilliant venue,we went one summer night about ten years ago to watch Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, one of the best venue's and concerts I've ever been to,I'm sure you will have a brilliant night FD.
My first gig is going to be Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh in October.

First one booked is Michael Head & The Red Elastix Band at The Hebden Bridge Trades Club. Coincidentally they were the last band I saw before lockdown.

Although I think I'll be seeing New Order at The Piece Hall before that but haven't got tickets yet.

Brilliant isn’t it? I saw British Sea Power there a few years ago, amazing venue and good town to spend the afternoon in.

You need to be wary of pensioners performing slapstick though.

Next Wednesday 11th August. Jack O’Rourke at Watergrasshill. Out doors and had to book a table for four, thankfully we are four. Try to catch him once a year, some beautiful tunes.

Always find it mad when you hear of these people that have watched the same band 100-200 times, some literally go to every gig.

Each to their own but I'm happy seeing a band a handful of times over a 10-15 year period.

Depends what you want tbh. I saw Arctic Monkeys 9 times in 2018, all abroad. For various reasons. 1 was the first gig in 5 years in Europe. 1 was their 3 gig back in 5 years in a wonderful setting. Some I went because I was simply free. The other few were in the space of a week travelling about seeing them and ending with the final gig at the Hollywood Bowl. All memorable gigs and to me, special.

Back to the topic. The Lounge Society in Preston a couple of weeks back and got Blanketman next week at The Trades. Great to see live music again.

So Charlatans in Holmforth in 2009 and had a great day out, was chatting to Tim Burgess early doors and its a great venue.

Went to my first gig since lockdown last week in Manchester to see Shotty Horroh and was great to back in and amongst it. Venue was a place called Yes round Oxford road way and was a cool little place. For any Leeds based people it felt like a smaller version of Belgrave Music Hall

Got Bluetones and Sleeper next week then Little Man Tate not long after both rescheduled from last year. My band to watch out for later this year is Holy Youth Movement for whom ive got high hopes

My first was Gary Numan, Manchester '87, Exhibition Tour. Seen him loads since.

Most unexpectedly fab show was Kylie. I bought two tickets so I could take the missus for our anniversary one year as she is a fan. What an absolutely amazing show. I was expecting the place to packed with kids and my ear drums to be making their own way to the exit after 20 minutes or so. No Pete Waterman inspired insipid pop. This was quality musicianship and boy she can sing. How she held the high note at the end of Confide In Me without any wavering was incredible. I see her in a different light now.

Depeche Mode were fab too. Been twice, Songs of Faith and Devotion at the G-Mex and then Best Of Vol 2 at MEN.

Nothing planned as yet.

Last gig was Hot Gossip at Sheffield Poly, where I had back stage access (the fools) .........that's why it's the last gig I was allowed at.

Hi Steve, yeah been there thrice. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Laurence Jones and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

As you say, a belting venue, if a bit short on seating for the elderly amongst us. :D
Holmfirth itself is a lovely little place to wander round, plenty of good ale houses and one of the best
Indian restaurants I've ever been to - The Bengal Spice.

Cadiz will have to do without me. :D

This one is tough.
The first band that I paid to go and see was either magnum or the smiths, but I can't remember what order they came in.
But having had a wierd early life, I must have performed publicly prior to that over 1000 times and been to quite a lot of clasxical/choral performances not of my own choosing, most of which were highly professional, but of a bourgeois repertoire (to paraphrase a line from a bond film).

Do us a favour and let us know what time the first band of the two come on. Out for beers in Leeds with mates on Sat and want to leave them and head into the gig as near to start time as poss.

Im thinking first band will come on bout 8.30am but do not want to miss Talkin to Clarry and do not want to spend 30-40 mins in the venue before they come on

So would I if I didnt like the bands however....

.....as Expecting to Fly and the singles and b-sides around it was some of my favourite and most influential stuff from the mid nineties music scene that shaped the person I became, I cant wait to hear those tunes and be around like minded people that takes me back to my youth
