Thank you Amazon

Post by ClaretTony » Fri Aug 13, 2021 11:11 am

I recently pre-order three books on Amazon aware that the price I committed to could be lower on date of publication.

Wednesday: Money taken and delivery confirmed for Thursday

Thursday: Books successfully delivered

Friday: Email received to inform me that the price was indeed cheaper. GREAT NEWS, the email says, I'm going to be refunded from my original outlay of £56.97 the grand sum of 6p and they will email me when it has been processed.

I suppose I could put it towards a TWIX.

I once got a voucher from Tesco for 1p because my shopping would have been 1p cheaper elsewhere.

I once got a refund, by cheque for 12p after I’d been “overcharged” by a penny for 12 months of direct debit

It would have cost me more to drive into town & park up to cash it so I didn’t bother.

I then got a “follow-up” letter enquiring why I hadn’t cashed it

I suppose you people know that Amazon have built their dubious reputation on cheap/slave labour don't you?

Hope you saved up CT, I dread to think what the price is this season once we’re inside the ground :)

We recently paid £4.95 for a next day delivery via Amazon, it came two days later, but we weren’t bothered, out of the blue an email came on day three from Amazon saying they’d noticed the late delivery and refunded the full £4.95.

Yup, but frankly unless governments legislate to address it, whether your average punter shops with them or not, will make the square root of feck all difference.

Don't let that interfere with your sense of superiority and **** poor attempts at guilt tripping though eh?

A few years ago with HSBC, I don't use them anymore, I received a call from them asking me to go to the branch to discuss my account.

I headed off into town and stopped at a cash machine on the way for it to give me my card back and not any cash. So thinking my account had been suspected of fraud or hacked I proceeded to the bank.

They explained I have received a refund from a company I placed an order with for £0.00 (nothing) and this had broken the bank's system and flagged on their fraud system and so I had to wait 5 days before my account was reopened.

Understandable tbh, fraudsters often make several test transactions of a similar nature to that before going in for the kill

Ah that's right pass it over to the government so ''nothing to do with me attitude'' eh.

But there again we expect nothing more of people with that sort of "up the ladder jack I'm all right'' attitude.

Slave labour? don't be such a drama queen. They aren't handcuffed at gunpoint and forced to work 18 hour shifts to stay alive.

Like most multinational companies.
Nike's are made in places like Thailand etc where it's very cheap to make stuff.
If it becomes more expensive then they'll just move along to the next country

Just reading this thread and this was my thought also.....I actually know a few people who work for Amazon up here in the NE...they seem happy enough, they eat well, can pay their bills, enjoy a few pints, no cuff marks....oh and their shift pattern if pretty cool...4 on 3 off....

The thing with deriding a company as tantamount to slavery is that if you really look at everything you own, you're supporting something shady somewhere along the line. It is inevitable.

I once worked on a multi-million dollar government contract in Australia. At the end of the project I had to reconcile the account back to zero but one person had over paid their individual contribution. I had to have a meeting with several lawyers to discuss this anomaly. I was legally obliged to send a cheque out for 4 cents, although I did phone the person beforehand to explain why it had to happen.

Had an email from Yorkshire Bank this week, saying they had some returned post. I have moved, but don't even recall having an account. After calling them, explaining, one question was what my balance was! Said I couldn't proceed without knowing... luckily I said it should be small, and they agreed to close the account and send the £2 to charity.
You can deposit cheques online now, is a great benefit of online banking

I received a check for $0.01 from the IRS through the mail, It was framed and in the home office in California, somewhere along the multiple moves it got lost, which is very disappointing.

Well I didn't think starting this thread would lead to bickering.

It was nothing to do with Amazon as a company, just a joke about getting 6p. I've now had the confirmation email that the refund has been processed.

I had an (7 actually) interview with Amazon a couple of years ago for their new Manchester office. Pay was double the going rate for that position (more than the PM).

By the end of the interviews they had convinced me that I will never, ever work for Amazon.

I once made 17p off “Derek” while doing camera on the Krypton Factor. He needed change to phone home (pub in London if I remember)

Looks like you are both as bad as each other. Why don’t you attempt to have a reasonable discussion without resorting to petty name calling. From where I am it looks quite pathetic. It’s a shame as there is debate to be had on the exploitation of labour in general (though maybe, on reflection, not on this message board).

Its the old sphere of influence/sphere of concern i'm afraid.
