Summer holidays, people working, money, Covid.
Same every year apart from Covid.

A lot of PL clubs at home would have had bumper crowds today

I thought that perhaps they were limiting the number allowed in. If so, the people of Burnley have more sense than most.

Some people’s finances took a battering with being furloughed & still playing catch up especially when things are tight at the best of times.

we are a championship club that has massively over achieved. Support sounded ok on the TV (it is hard to judge tbh) in the first 30 mins then all you could hear was Brighton fans, abject all around I'd say

Tbf, I couldn’t go on today but every one of my mates and family that usually go on, went on.
I do think we will see a lot lower gates this year but there’s more to it that just the football on display

We've been very lucky with what it has cost us to watch premier league football

You need a new TV
The CFS out sang Brighton the majority of the game.

genuinely, I often wonder if those at the controls of the broadcast change levels of certain mics during the game - it's why I said it was hard to judge

Just seen pictures of the stands on Twitter and the lower longside and Lower JM were half empty.
No wonder they won't post the attendance.

Dyche hoofball is not going to bring the crowds back
I thought about not going on today and watching online but changed my mind
Going to be a hard decision for the Leeds game - there's little attraction in going on to watch that style of football

As bad as we were in the second half today, I wouldn't describe it has hoofball.

It’s simply a case of apathy setting in amongst our support.
Die hards aside, who will turn up no matter what, we have to give the rest of our ‘floating’ supporters a reason to attend, and Premier League football alone doesn’t look like it’s cutting it at the minute.

If attendances have dropped that badly after 18 months of no attendances then that's as bad as having no signings. A challenge for the new owners
6000 fans @ £35 = £210,000. Revenue we cannot afford to lose

I assume that attendance includes ticket sales of fans that didn’t turn up. Looked considerably lower.
Either way that must be the lowest attendance in the league

A mix of highly unattractive opposition ,and bang in the middle of hols not to mention about 2k would just not have bothered with covid thing/last min tickets etc . It was lower tier bee hole that was half empty as was about 70% of the directors box and associated seats . Maybe 16ish on

**** fanbase, it’s as simple as that. We have a core base of about 8000 fans, the rest are just hangers on.

I always remember some fans forum and it was either Bentley or Flood saying we have the lowest number of walk ons in the league- at that time the Championship. Nothing will have changed.
Season tickets are down after last year i assume, and the bonkers new pricing by the owners will have reduced the walk ons even further. Like I said on another thread, the bloke next to me hadn’t renewed after many years, and his ticket was available today for £50. I’ll be surprised if that ticket is bought at any time this season by a Burnley fan.

A lot of people have got used to not being able to attend sports events And have found better uses of their time. No signings ( again) won’t have helped. Pace and co won’t get support unless they are seen to be putting serious investments into the club. Only thing I can see is a huge debt that wasn’t there before. Even the players today didn’t look 100% up for it. Maybe it was just a bad day at the office.

The novelty of being in the top flight has worn off now. Simply aiming to finish 17th and hoping there's three worse teams doesn't exactly fill you with much excitement for a new season either.

Exactly other teams will at least have a new signing or two to unveil, whereas we line-up with the same core that finished last term, plus allied to the holiday season, and Brighton hardly setting the pulses racing, it should come as no surprise if a few decided not to bother.
The worry is we seem to having a lot more bad days at the office these days.

Nope! that's true, and yet another reason why we shouldn't treat the cups with the contempt that we do every season.

It’s hardly surprising given the style of play been offered up, no new signings in the first 11 for the first game of the season, the fact we started the 19/20 season with pretty much the same team speaks volumes. People will see prices go up and still no investment in the first 11.
See on another topic McNeil getting grief for creating nothing, but that’s because teams know to put two men on him and the that’s our most creative player stopped.
Team full of old slow workhorses with no creativity.

Premier League Club with a stale team and stale atmosphere, the novelty really went some seasons ago and starting with another home defeat will only serve to keep more people away.
I don't get this £50 rubbish some keep banging on about though, there were scores of seats priced at £30 empty.

League isn't relevant, it's supply and demand. There isn't a big enough demand for tickets to charge premium prices.

No surprise at all for me. Hols, Covid, the opposition, restrictions around how tickets can be purchased, the price, people have found other things to do and unclarity around Covid rules. Only about 1% of fans wore masks although stewards that were miles away from anyone did. I think some people think Covid doesn’t get you if you are watching football. Having said that it was great to get that match day experience again

My missus and two kids are season ticket holders. I'm not these days because of work commitments. I've been a walk-on for a couple of years. Where they sit, it's now fifty quid for a walk-on. Guess I won't be going to home games anymore.

Precisely.
I do believe that the general lack of investment in the team, over several years, is taking its toll on our attendances (albeit 1st game vs Brighton while everyone is on holiday is not a good barometer). The club are responsible for that and the only ones that can fix it, if they want to.
Will never be convinced that these supposed £50 seats, of which I happen to know that only a small number even exist for sale (in the Longside at least), are to blame while there are £30 tickets for sale.

I was surprised at the lack of masks given all the fear being spread by some on here. I took mine just in case, but absolutely nobody was wearing one in our stand, just felt like any other game, which was great

A lot of truth in that.
And also if anyone knows anything about our support over the years, then today was just above par for home support. If some folk are thinking that 21,000 every match should be the norm then they need to rethink.
