Large screens
I thought that the club had planned to erect two large curved screens on top of each of the new corner stands. What happened to them ? It is still very difficult to see the one screen from the North Stand.

Didn’t look a lot different inside the ground to me apart from the dug outs.

From the BL stand, the directors box had changed. Can’t work out if it’s bigger. Some of the seats had wires underneath- assume they are now heated.

Re: Large screens
More importantly what happened to the tvs in the concourse.
JHU appeared to have only 1 small set for the whole length. Trying to force your way through the crowds to find it is a royal pain. It's not as if there hasn't been time to sort it.

Longside lower concourse was well dark aswell. Like they were saving money turning the tvs and lights off.

In the Jimmy mac lower before the game instead if showing the leeds man u game they were just showing sky sports news. Are the club now so skint they can’t afford to pay for BT sport?Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:41 pmMore importantly what happened to the tvs in the concourse.

I thought they were going to sort the WiFi/mobile signal too!
Re: Large screens
No TVs working in JMU but worse than that was no pies left just before Kick off. Thankfully they found some for H/T.

Re: Large screens
Yup, probably all going to happen but after all the talk over the summer, it looked like nothing had happened, other than some people were queuing for longer to get in.
I don't follow every move the club make too closely, or read every tweet, but we were a bit surprised they still hadn't managed to put a new telly up in this brave new world we're apparently in.

Gates outside painted in inappropriate colours, new dug outs, other than that no change. The Longside upper concourse still looking a dank mess.

Re: Large screens
Take the match day programme for example, since 2007, it's been an excellent quality product. Tangibly it felt like a decent publication printed on high quality paper, with an embossed cover and bespoke photography and quality editorial inside. Now it just feels like your run of the mill matchday programme with photos from Getty Images... and they've added 50p onto it.
I think the price is reasonable by the way, but given its an inferior product compared to recent reasons it doesn't seem value for money.

Re: Large screens
Our 2 local Hermes couriers both given up (Paul due to ill health and the lass from Hellifield expanding family) now we have Hermes self employed randoms from miles away who just dump on doorsteps taking photo (not always correct properties) .... hence loads of complaints about them in the local villages around here

Re: Large screens
I have a mate who’s an electrician. By all accounts the entire Jimmy Mac and part of the longside are run on small generators not big enough for all the cables they are trying to rewire and fit. It was a design fault. They have people working 12 hour shifts on it constantly. Think this was the issue with the club shop power and ticket office. Been going on years

Another gripe, the hot water taps in the North stand toilets was reduced to ridiculously slow dribble. Hardly encouraging for people to wash their hand during a worldwide pandemic. Not that many were actually hand washing after taking a wiz.

Re: Large screens
I’ve never understood the layout of the Longside upper concourse. Entrance/exists, toilets, bars and tv’s all crowded together with acres of free space in between. It’s almost like designed crushing. The queues outside the ground were caused by too many people using one turnstile whilst the other had barely a queue. No stewarding advising fans of such. I hope those tarpaulin signs are temporary, they look a right mess.

Re: Large screens
The extensive queueing into the Jimmy Mac stand was due to turnstiles only allowing access to the entrance specified on season cards. This led to some chaos amongst fans who’ve used a certain turnstile for years. Farcically, some of the turnstiles had a couple of hundred people queueing whilst others had none.
That said, the self scan entry was far quicker.

Re: Large screens
That was weird wasn't it. Obviously, we usually use whichever turnstile has the shortest queue. But with the new coloured signage around the turnstiles, it actually made people think they could only use a certain entrance, possibly some Covid red tape rule.
The queue for 'G' was huge (the one specified on our ST), so we went to 'H' to see if we'd get in. Went straight through.. no idea what that new system was supposed to achieve.

Re: Large screens
No requirement to use a specific turnstile in the Longside upper. Scanning cards was no different. The operator took it off us and scanned it himself.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 1:00 pmThe extensive queueing into the Jimmy Mac stand was due to turnstiles only allowing access to the entrance specified on season cards. Re: Large screens
We got turned away from two entrances to the JMU. Other entrances to this stand had no queues whilst others had a couple of hundred people waiting to get in.
We held up our card to a scanner which was much quicker than last season though and fortunately meant the queue moved quickly.

Re: Large screens
Yes. Originally tried at our usual entrance at the corner next to the BL stand and got told we had to go to entrance E. The card was rejected when scanned. Then went to entrance E and was told it was entrance F. Upon checking our card it did specify entrance F, but we’ve always been able to use whichever entrance suited.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 1:05 pmAye, we thought that. But the one next to our specified card let us in no bother. No queue on that one either.
Did you try getting in another turnstile?

I will add another whinge. A couple of the speakers in the Longside Upper are blown. It is the pair that are second in from the Cricket Field. I seem to remember that they were not working last time I was on. Constant low level buzzing through the game.
To be honest the entire ground looked half finished. New owners are not making a great impression.

There was NO indication at the entrances to the North Stand if the entrance was for the Lower Tier or the Upper Tier.

Re: Large screens
Same on the Jimmy Mac. It was a shambles outside as people were queuing for ages in the wrong queues, then tried queue jumping other queues when they realised. Stewards stood there eating crayons whilst a turnstile was empty, half covered by one large queue for the upper tier near to the Longside end, yet the other queue for the lower tier was huge. It just needed someone a steward to notice and direct people. Quite a lot were still outside at kick off.

the only planning application I can find (relating to the corner screens) is this one:Chester Perry wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 10:24 pmawaiting planning permission I think - the announcement of them said it was subject to planning approval
'Erection of digital signage along the eastern and northern elevations of the stadium'
Approved: Wed 14 Jul 2021
here's a representation of how the screen will appear...but that's the one that replaces the existing 'flat' screen between North Stand (Jimmy Hargreaves) and Jimmy Mac stand!
I can't find any reference to an application for a large screen in the south-east corner (between Jimmy Mac + Bob Lord)!
