They do. It's likely Barrow will go down today. Had it been a Saturday afternoon they would have needed a hotel stay.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:07 pmSure I read the clubs request the long trips for midweek.
Can’t remember why.
Fans are never considered though.
Nogan scored twice against us down there but that was Boxing Day 1992. I think the game you refer to was in 1995/96 when Nogan was a Burnley player.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:39 pmI remember going to watch us get beat 1-0 at Brighton (I'm sure Nogan scored) in midweek and it felt a lot longer going home after a defeat !!
I used to think a 6hr drive was a long trip then I came to America where anything under 12 hours is seemingly considered "around the corner"
Yeah I was at the boxing day game, we stayed with relatives in London for Christmas so that was a short trip. I knew Nogan was involved in 96 but my memory is shocking !! April 96.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:44 pmNogan scored twice against us down there but that was Boxing Day 1992. And a miserable night too - probably the last time I went to the Goldstone Ground.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:53 pmYeah I was at the boxing day game, we stayed with relatives in London for Christmas so that was a short trip. Agree and same here. At least we didn't get wet on the open terrace !ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:57 pmAnd a miserable night too - probably the last time I went to the Goldstone Ground.
I’ve never quite got my head around how promotion/relegation works with that though.CaptainKirk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 3:01 pmThey should go back to the bottom 2 leagues being sorted on a North and South basis.
Save all Clubs a fortune on costs, which they clearly need, save fans a fortune as mentioned and would mean more local games and better crowds.
Makes sense to me but will never happen.
That’s exactly it, still goes on in the Conference North and South, for example Hereford and Gloucester are in the northern section.wilks_bfc wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 3:05 pmI’ve never quite got my head around how promotion/relegation works with that though.
If the “regional” winners get promoted, what happens if it’s 2 “Southern” teams that are relegated from the Chanpionship?
Does the northernest southern team get relegated to the northern league?
I think they fudge it. When FCUM were in the Conference North (or equivalent) Gloucester City were also in there, for example. Gloucester is nowhere near Manchester and certainly nowhere near York, Guiseley etc.wilks_bfc wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 3:05 pmI’ve never quite got my head around how promotion/relegation works with that though.

If they do they'll pass Exeter at about Hilton Park.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:09 pmThey do. It's likely Barrow will go down today. Had it been a Saturday afternoon they would have needed a hotel stay.
I think Port Vale and Coventry both had spells in either division as needed.wilks_bfc wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 3:05 pmI’ve never quite got my head around how promotion/relegation works with that though.

The old divisions 3 north and south were before my time but I'm sure Walsall used to keep moving from one to other dependent on which teams had been relegated from the second division.wilks_bfc wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 3:05 pmI’ve never quite got my head around how promotion/relegation works with that though.

They did Tony, a club could be in North one year and South the following depending on who was promoted/relegated. Still happens in the Conference North and South.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 3:53 pmThe old divisions 3 north and south were before my time but I'm sure Walsall used to keep moving from one to other dependent on which teams had been relegated from the second division.
Of course it will, hadn’t thought of that. Just been looking at those two leagues - so southern biased that Hereford are in the north league.
I read clubs prefer this so on a Saturday they'd would more than likely have a closer game, derbies etc allowing for a higher attendance at the weekend.
I always take my passport to Norwich - it takes that long I'm convinced we must have left the country.maccclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 3:06 pmKings Lynn won National League north not too long ago - they're probably far enough from anywhere to merit a league of their own with Norwich, which must be the least motorway connected away day.
