Being brought up on the likes of Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Connie Francis and Mario Lanza. My first album was 'Monster Hits' which introduced me to Gerry Marsden, the Ronettes etc.
It came as a bit of a shock to my parents when I bought Boomtown Rats' - A Tonic For Troops' which was to be my first real favourite album.

First song I recall hearing is probably Roll With It - Oasis. Many days out as a kid sat in the back of the car. REM as well around the same time.
As for albums as I got a bit older The Strokes - Is This It (still probably my favourite ever record) and The Libertines - Up The Bracket. Both those simply because I was getting into music at the time and the first 2 records I got because of what I read about them as oppose to hearing 1 or 2 songs. That was a few years after they were released as I was too young at the time they came out. An album I bought that came out was Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say. I was more into The Beatles, Stones, Dylan than newer bands at the time tbh. I started out collected LPs of 60s stuff. Those 3 records that I did mention I would place firmly up there with whatever was made in the 60s, quite easily.
I feel lucky to be the age I am and being able to enjoy 50/60 plus years of outstanding music. The older generations that were around in the 60s/70s don’t appreciate newer stuff enough.

Thats a great post Dyched, although i have loved all types of music from the 60s to the present day back in the day us old buggers had so much more choice then,as time has gone on we just have less choice but there is still some fantastic artists around, the best one around these days has to be Post Malone who I'm hoping to catch in concert before i pop my clogs....without music there is nothing.

Yep, music is so important to me. I’ve recently been to see Julia Bardo (she’s playing Scotland in a month or so, if I’m right in thinking you’re up there?), great 60’s sounding solo female, good songs, debut album out in a few weeks. Blanketman and also The Lounge Society. All young musicians and talented. It’s helped me so much recently just to be back out there watching, listening.
There is so much stuff from the 60’s. I hardly scratched the surface to be fair. The modern musicians I’m into have also made a big contribution to keep that older stuff still important to young people. They make playlists, name check bands in interviews etc. Naturally I go searching and listening and be introduced to new “old” stuff. It’s brilliant.
This is brilliant. I found this the way how I explained, the riff is up there with the best I’ve ever heard.

After just listening to that French tune above, it just seems like most of the 60's guitar stuff just copied each other in the end. That riff could be so many riffs of the time.
Anyway, found this little gem recently from garageland America 60's copied again from god knows how many songs. Nazz-Open my Eyes

Stone Roses debut album is what got me into music and is my favourite album by miles
Mid to late 90s is when I was at college and uni and music was my life. Definitely Maybe and His 'n' Hers were the best from that time and are in my top 10 ever
Then in my 20's I was lucky enough to have The Strokes, The Libertines and The Arctic Monkeys and each of their debuts are also in my top 10

That JLL album is great, still got it somewhere I think.
Another one I played loads is The Buddy Holly Story, basically his greatest hits.
