Missing kick off again
What a joke it is becoming to get on the ground before kick off. Why is it you can only use the turnstile number printed on your card.
Re: Missing kick off again
I don't even know what numbers on mine, I just go to the one nearest my seat, and walk straight in 10 mins before kick off, never had a problem

We’re leaving 15 minutes earlier to make sure we get on for kick off. If you’ve been caught out before I suggest it’s you not adapting to the new circumstances that’s to blame. Give your head a wobble and adapt.

Do exactly as you did prior to Covid, I was caught out like you were on the first game but was told you can use any of the turnstiles not just the specific ones shown on your season card, queues were more evenly spread out today and I was in at the same rate as in previous seasons.

Re: Missing kick off again
Shouldn't have to, in previous seasons (Liverpool and Preston) the club blamed the fans for not getting there in time when turnstiles were closed due to a lack of staff.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 5:53 pmwithout wanting to sound daft because I don't know your circumstance but can you not get there earlier ?
If you have arrived at the turnstiles in plenty of time for the past 25 years and something happens to slow the process down then I can't see how the blame can be put on the supporters.
That thing is notifying people that they have to use specific turnstiles and seeing the queue for these turnstiles twice the size of other queues you've got to ask why aren't the stewards helping the situation outside the ground to alleviate this?

There's no way now of knowing if a turnstile is for the upper tier or lower tier on the Jimmy Mac and Longside stands.Goody1975 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 6:05 pmYou don't have to use the turnstile printed on your card.

Because if everybody used the very same turnstile, it would cause a backlog.Mickclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 5:50 pmWhy is it you can only use the turnstile number printed on your card.

There is also a deliberate misguidance from the club in removing the 'Upper tier' and 'Lower tier' signage. The biggest problem we had was being stuck behind people queueing for the wrong tier.

That is valid if you have never been on Turf Moor previously but regular supporters know which turnstiles relate to their section of the ground.Sean Dyche's Watch wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 6:11 pmThere's no way now of knowing if a turnstile is for the upper tier or lower tier on the Jimmy Mac and Longside stands.

That’s not true. We were denied entry to two different turnstiles for the Brighton game. Maybe this isn’t the case around the whole ground but the JMU will only allow access through the turnstile specified on the card.Goody1975 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 6:05 pmYou don't have to use the turnstile printed on your card.

Re: Missing kick off again
Just ask the people in the queue for turnstiles 35-36 for the Longside Upper on the first game, when turnstiles 37-39 had no queue, loads missed the goal against Brighton.
Previous season cards said use turnstiles 35-39, it's only this year that it has been changed and it caused chaos on the opening week, it obviously hasn't been solved completely today either.

All I can tell you is a member of our group contacted the club and he said you can use any turnstile, the change to the season cards was in case there were restrictions due to Covid.

I know but that’s obviously not true, as our cards were rejected when scanned. Loads of other peoples were too which led to farcically long queues for some turnstiles and absolutely no queue for others.

My card says use turnstiles 35-36 and I went through turnstile 39 today, so make of that what you will.

I missed kick off waiting in a queue. I heard one lady ranting at a steward like it was his fault. Disgraceful. Get there earlier or stand and wait in line!

Re: Missing kick off again
Ranting at a steward obviously isn't great and not fair but the club MUST have seen the queues on the first game and part of their safety plan is to deal with things like this. Blaming fans for not turning up at 1.30pm is also the wrong way of dealing with the situation either.
The ground safety officer needs to resolve this for the Arsenal game.

I heard a few people saying that and we were asked by someone in the queue behind us whether this was for upper or lower. Its a minor issue in the grand scheme of things but yes - having upper and lower is a small but important piece of information for some.Sean Dyche's Watch wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 6:11 pmThere's no way now of knowing if a turnstile is for the upper tier or lower tier on the Jimmy Mac and Longside stands.
I am also a little concerned about how they have closed an exit off in the NSU and is pushing 1000s through one point around the tv trucks. They had also closed the cricket club gate off today by instructions of the police. Had people kicking back of my feet and I was probably doing same to others in front too as it kept stopping and starting a bit in the flow.

Re: Missing kick off again
There has to be a way to have the scanners outside or on the wall where the perspex is for fans for them to just do it themselves and have someone to perhaps check them if that is needed when they get to the 3rd or 4th point in the queue to ensure tickets are correct etc.
Would flow much faster imo and that would mean that the queues don't build as large. It was starting to snake because the flow was too slow

Re: Missing kick off again
I turned up at 13:50 (lad wanted a new kit and we got held up in the clarets store). We got in a couple of minutes after kick off. If I choose to turn up 10 minutes before kick-off, I deserve to miss it. If I’d have been there at 13:45, I’d have been sat at my seat.Goody1975 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 6:51 pmRanting at a steward obviously isn't great and not fair but the club MUST have seen the queues on the first game and part of their safety plan is to deal with things like this. Long queues but no safety issues as far as I could see.

I always turn up 10 mins before kick off.. Visit the toilets and have never, in over 50 years missed the kick off. If I can do it, surely the rest of you can.

Re: Missing kick off again
I've not been on t'Turf for some time (just away games for past few seasons).
Reading what has been posted above, is it possible that the cards are programmed with the turnstiles/gates that they can be used for - and some of those cards have been programmed with several turnstiles/gates and others have been programmed with a more restricted number of turnstiles/gates? If this is the case, and you feel your choice of turnstiles/gates is limited, maybe you can contact the club and see if that detail on your card can be updated?
Good luck.
UTC
PS: Just to add - I was speaking to someone a couple of weeks ago about the queues to get into the ground for the FA Cup 4th round replay against Chelsea in 1970. The stories around Burnley is that there were 10,000 who didn't get in that night. The guy I was speaking to is a Chelsea fan. He says it was one of Chelsea's most important games: if they'd not won that night they wouldn't have gone on to win the FA Cup and the following year the Cup Winners Cup. Although he was a little too young to get to t'Turf that night, he says the Chelsea fans also speak of how many of their fans were locked out. Apparently, it's all mentioned in a new book about Chelsea and their Dave Sexton years.

No queues that night PW just a swirling mass of bodies trying to fight their way to any turnstile, where did they all come from because they weren`t all from Chelsea

Liverpool fans were given staggered arrival times and beer prices reduced given massive problems with their new e-tickets…….last week we saw queues which I bet they didn’t get in until the Chelsea match!!
Bless .em.
Ps we got in ok yesterday but did notice the signs don’t distinguish between JML/U which was causing some people to be in the wrong queues.

I have been walking up Yorkshire St around 230 and fans are diving into the pubs to get one last drink before going on
The arrival of late comers has caused issues forever at the Turf and worse at some away grounds.

I've just posted on another thread that I always turn up at the same time every game and it always gives me plenty of time to get in, but yesterday the queues were dreadful and I ended up missing the first 8 minutes. I've no idea if it's a one off or what the issues were. I'm JHU.

Re: Missing kick off again
There was a huge queue for the JMU just before kick off. The queue was for one turnstile. There were two other turnstiles open directly next to this with hardly any queue…. Very few realised they could have used these. Whilst it would have been good to see some common sense from these fans queuing for no reason, there wasn’t a single steward about to shepherd the fans and get rid of the queue. It would all have been resolved with literally one steward.

As I’ve said above, that’s not true. Some, maybe all, season tickets for the JMU only give access through a specific turnstile.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 7:29 amThere was a huge queue for the JMU just before kick off. Got there just before kick off and got quickly into the ground at JMU without giving the turnstile number any thought.
Re: Missing kick off again
Obviously, not all.Me and my 2 sons used a different turnstile yesterday without any problem.
I'm not even aware that there's a specific turnstile number to 7se and never have done

You keep saying it's not true but people are giving you situations where they DID enter using alternative turnstiles. All this is suggesting that yourself and quite a few other people are having an issue with their cards where the majority don't have the same problem.
I suggest you contact the club to try and resolve this before the Arsenal game.

Re: Missing kick off again
I’m just saying it’s not true that anyone can use any turnstile. I didn’t go yesterday because I’m away on holiday, but at the Brighton game a lot of people in the JMU could only access via the turnstile specified on their season ticket. The long queues were full of people who had tried other turnstiles but been turned away. Now it appears that it doesn’t apply to everyone in that stand, but it’s not correct to state that everyone can use any turnstile.Goody1975 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:12 amYou keep saying it's not true but people are giving you situations where they DID enter using alternative turnstiles. Theres no denying that the queues outside the Turf are 4 times as long as they used to be. Considering that you just scan your card and ticket it makes no sense. I missed a couple of minutes yesterday, I arrived no later than I did in seasons gone by. Unless thousands have decided to simultaneously leave it to the last minute, it's a head scratcher. When You get to the turnstile there doesn't appear to be any issue.

You do realise if everyone got there in “decent time” (which would obviously never happen because some people lead busy lives and may not be able to spare the time), there would be increased congestion and you would find yourself stuck in a queue. Who’s the clown then?AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 10:08 amGlad you're enjoying it; not as much fun for those who make the effort to get there in decent time; they have to put up with having their viewing disrupted by the clowns who can't manage it.

A few people in our queue were getting to the front trying their card a few times, then finding it was rejected as it was wrong turnstile. I imagine this could add up in terms of time. Also, it looks like we’re now confined to two entrances.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:18 amTheres no denying that the queues outside the Turf are 4 times as long as they used to be. Re: Missing kick off again
Never had a problem getting in the ground no matter what time I’ve turned up, until this season.
Went earlier yesterday but still late in and many more behind us.
It’s odd considering the ground isn’t actually as busy as it has been in the past.
Something has changed and it’s made an issue for the JHU where I sit.
