First up is Wayne Hennessey, on the bench for Wales in their friendly away to Finland at 5, but can imagine he'll be on at half time.

Four caps to go to become the second Welshman to reach 100.

Hennessey has come on second half. One for CT to add to capped Clarets.
Collins a possibility later tonight, Maxwell at Mozambique 2pm Friday.
NO INJURIES PLEASE.

Collins on the bench for ROI, Hendrick starts for them. They are a very very poor national team could well get a hiding tonight.

They could well do, the last time they faced Portugal they got thumped 5-1, and that was no doubt a far better ROI side than this current one is.
The really bad news for the Irish is Ronaldo is chasing the all time scoring record, and you wouldn't beat against him smashing it tonight.
The real problem for the ROI is the lower down the groups they finish the harder it will likely get come the next draws as their seeding will continue dropping, this is one of the reasons Scotland have struggled to qualify for major tournaments in the last 20+ years.

Clean sheet for Wayne. Beaten late on but a clear offside.

Yep decent enough 45 for him, TBH it sounded a poor game, but the clean sheet is too be welcomed.

James Collins is on the bench. Doesn't look like Nathan is in the match day squad

I only watched the second half and that was half-heartedly. Wales looked poor until the late subs after that they could easily have won.

Is that confirmed? Surprised if so as they are playing 3 at back with only 1CB on bench and have 2 strikers on bench plus James Collins if you are correct.

19. Collins
There's two strikers on the bench isn't there, him and Parrott? Shane Long is ruled out to Covid

Definitely no Nathan Collins for Ireland tonight, a battering would be on the way but Portugal are very conservative under Santos, an easy 2-0 for Portugal.

Penalty Portugal. Hendrick booked. Being reviewed, he appeared to get the ball. You can tell from the direction the ball goes that Hendrick played it.
Pen given, shocker

Ronaldo equalises at the death, and that's his record now confirmed.
It'll still be a fine point for Ireland if they can hang on for the draw however.

Presumably if Cornet plays in Mozambique he won't be allowed into the UK until after the 14th September? Or will he now have to follow Premier League protocols and not be allowed to travel?

I thought he'd have been stopped from going, now he's registered with the Premier league..... Just our luck, he'll be the only one going to a red list country

I don't think the Premier League has stopped players travelling, just that they'll support the clubs decision. For example Spurs have allowed Lo Celso and Romero to play for Argentina in red list countries.
Depending if Cornet goes to Mozambique, then he will be returning to UK after Ivory Coast 2nd game on the 6th September, return to UK for 7th September, then 10 day quarantining until 17th, so could probably rule him out of Everton and Arsenal games, more than likely make his debut in the Rochdale League Cup game.

Vydra - CZECH REPUBLIC v Belarus

He'll just be up to speed, and will be off again to the African Cup... Or are there more world Cup games before then?

Pope and Vydra will probably find themselves on the bench, Guddy should start for Iceland.
BPF should also be in the nets for Northern Ireland in Lithuania.

He'll be gone for the international break in October and November also, if he is called up.
Then the whole of January he'll be absent at the Africa Cup of Nations, we'll be lucky to have 10 appearances from him before February.

When Cornet jets off for the next two international breaks there will still be red list countries.
He may not play for us this season.

Thought this when we signed him, fingers crossed he chooses not to travel in October and November. AFCON is a different story, and unfortunately for us, you'd imagine the Ivory Coast will go far and he could be gone for weeks if any post-tournament isolation is involved too (although the host nation Cameroon is currently amber)

Let’s wish Maxwel good luck in his international career and hope that Ivory Coast win the tournament and the whole of Africa get to see a Burnley player. Let’s look at the possible long term benefits here.

I was sure the last African tournament was played in the summer to align it with the European leagues ending for the season, I suppose it didn't catch on unfortunately.

Countries now approaching FIFA including, Chile and Mexico, asking for Premier League to be penalised for not releasing players.
According to FIFA rules, any club not releasing a player with an agreement with their country cannot then play said player for 5 days after the international break is over.

That's better than 10 days quarantine for being in a red list country

Pope also number 22, does this mean Johnstone has gone ahead of him as number 2?

Slightly off topic but it’s quite telling how Gareth now thinks Grealish is good enough to be a starter now that he plays for Manchester City…

Exactly! and I said as much on the match thread, it's almost as if a player has to join a big 6 club to justify England selection, and yes I know there is a number not currently playing for the big 6 in the squad, but it is curious that suddenly JG is deemed a starter now he playing at City isn't it.

2-1 NI now, they doubled their lead with a pen, but the hosts immediately hit back, and there was nothing Bailey could do about that rocket of a strike.
