Fever Pitch... The Rise of the Premier League
Anyone else giving this a whirl tonight? (BBC 9pm)
Might be OK, probably the same old talking heads, though.
WARNING : This series contains traces of them down the motorway.

I've got in record - could be good but again, as you say, could be the same old talking heads.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 7:57 pmAnyone else giving this a whirl tonight? (BBC 9pm)

The same applies to football to be fair, Sky money has transformed the game.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 10:36 pmYou forget how on its arse Sky was before live football.

It's a good job that the bloke who made the sky dishes and receivers just happened to be in the meeting where the premier league was choosing who to sell the rights to.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 10:36 pmYou forget how on its arse Sky was before live football.

I watched it until it seemed like it was, once again, becoming the Manchester United
show - there was also the odd glimpse of the great unwashed.
Did I miss much ?

Sometimes, those early EPL days don't seem so long ago, then you watch programmes like this one and realise they are (nearly 30 years ago). I was too young to understand all the machinations and how much of a financial gamble it was at the time. A half decent documentary for a Monday evening.

Don't watch it next week then

It was alright, went over some well trodden ground. Bit of a puff piece for Murdoch and Sky in places. And yes, Rurrrrrvers feature quite a bit.

Re: Fever Pitch... The Rise of the Premier League
What was funny was the chairman of the Football League dismissing the idea of a new league.
That chairman was Bill Fox, the then Blackburn chairman, who at one time, according to one song, swept Burnley's Longside. He died in the December before the Premier League kicked off.

Yes, I remember the impeccably observed minutes' silence for him at the Turf.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 10:21 amWhat was funny was the chairman of the Football League dismissing the idea of a new league.

The Undeads far from out of the way ... Next week it concentrates on 1994/95 and Cantona's meltdown and how it threw the title race wide open...ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 10:06 amHopefully, the Undead bit's out of the way now.
As said, not much new but entertaining in its own way.

Re: Fever Pitch... The Rise of the Premier League
I wasn't a watcher of the prem to start so I didn't realise how they tried to do the US razzmatazz to start. The Sky Strikers! Blimey.
I guess they just ended up thinking- let's do the coverage better. Get more money in and up the stars in the League. Bingo!
